So I went to Kennsington Metro Park in Michigan USA after work yesterday with the intent of taking some of those cool pictures where my kid has a hand of bird seed and the birds fly down and eat out of your hand.
I have walked around the park many times and seen people doing this and hundreds of birds.

My question is is there a preferred time to do this as we went just before sun set around 5;30pm and we did not even see or hear a bird in over 30 minutes. ??

Heck, by 5:30 it's dark or nearly dark. The birds stop feeding (at least at my home) soon after dusk. In the morning, they're rushing in for food just after 7:00 am. These are dead of the wintertime times, keep in mind.
