First time using a non-onboard light to shoot an event. I had my Canon 550EX speedlite clamped down about 10 feet up and set it at manual, 1/4 power at about 35mm and fired it with PW's. Used my Canon 1d Mark IIN set at ISO 800, manually shooting at f 2.8 and 1/250. Skin is blown out a tad with certain images but overall I was fairly pleased with the results.

I like them all except the last one. It has a purple ting to it and the person with the camera right behind them has that lens reflecting back at you.
Your horizon on #4 seems a touch off.

I like them alot, I think just a quick skin tone fix will them really stand out. Actually plan on doing the same thing tonight, hopefully mine will look as good as these.

great work Chris. I can't believe this was a single light setup. It might just be the jpeg compression but if not, be careful you aren't over sharpening these. I see a few jaggies in there and MaxPreps will have issues with that jsut like an image over 800ISO.
Well done again man.

The gym was pretty well lit so I didn't want my light to be too overpowering. Willl need to work on the WB when shooting with a strobe in unfamiliar gyms like this one. The purple walls and mat coupled with a cooler temp on my camera gave me a slightly bluish images. Good catch on the sharpness. I think what happened was I sharpened them at 300 dpi then when I resized them I sharpened them again so they did get a tad overdone. Oh well, at least the print coies that went to the editor will look okay. Thanks for the crit, always appreciated from you. Chris

I know I will be using flash/strobe for wrestling when I can. These two are from the same meet - one without (1) and one with flash (580 EX II on camera). Much less work in the long run!!
