I am desperate:( . My A310 has just decided not to download to my computer. I reloaded the Camera Window software, put new batteries and a different CF card in and still it wont download. The camera window launcher tries to open but I just get a box with no options showing. When I go to My Computer to see what is happening, the hour glass stays on and nothing shows in My computer. Sometimes Camera Window says the camera is busy. I have tried going to default settings on the camera and it seems to be taking pictures and plays them back on the lcd.
Any help will be much appreciated.:D

It sounds like you may have a printer/scanner manager program running in the background that is interfering with the proper detection of the camera. Look down on your taskbar (by your system clock), and if you have an icon that relates to your printer, right click on it and disable it.

Well this is my first post so I say "Hello."

I can't get my A75 to download to my computer, just like yours. The camera window launchs but there are no options showing. I click cancel ( only option available ) and open windows explorer where under "my computer" I find a listing
for " Canon A75 camera." When I right click on it ( to pull up the menu ) I select " get pictures." After a few minutes I get a message that say " camera is in use or busy."
It worked perfect last week when I downloaded some pictures to the same Windows XP computer last week. Nothing has changed on my computer so I thought the batteries where low in the camera and bought some 4 non-rechargeable types. I than tried my A75 on 2 other Windows desktop XP computers and a Windows XP laptop but also without luck.
No other usb devices are loaded or connected. I read here ( I think I was up to 4:00AM reading forms on the net ) that if you hold down the set button and power on ( with the switch in the review postion ) thats it resets the camera. Well I did this and noticed on the LCD a "busy" message for a couple of seconds so I guess the camera did do something while holding down the set button and powering up.

Reload the software but I know this is a Windows XP trouble only. There must be something inside the A75 ( and your A310)that is stopping the camera from communicating to XP further beyond the plug and play (USB) hotplug sequence.

Scatching my head ( and few other parts ) I had this idea: I have a Windows 98 box here so maybe, just maybe it would work with it. At least it would prove out the camera. I have had it only for 3 months after getting it on a giveaway.

So at 3:00 in the morning I loaded the software ( twain drivers only) from the Canon Solutions disk onto the Win98's hard drive. Rebooted, removed the disk and plugged in the camera. Presto, there are my photos that up until now I could only see using the preview mode on the camara. I don't have a CF reader. I clicked on a few and was rewarded with watching the Canon acting normally again. So,what do you mean " normally" you ask: The canon's LCD when dark, the green LED flashes, and the picture(s) appeared on my computer. I double checked to make certain that they were all store on it's hard drive. All this occured with the camera in preview mode.

So Chameleon(125) what OS were you using to download to and have you tired it on different computer? Make sure that you batteries are good. Can you see the entire name of the camera in Explorer, not just "still digtial camera."

I removed my batteries last night before going to bed. Later today I am going to check it again. It seems only strange it will not work with XP.

I worked for weeks trying to get my A310 camera to download. It would do the same as your describing. I have Windows 2k (2000). I found the solution, and I'm not sure if Windows XP has the same resolution.

The service called "Still image service" must be set to automatic and started. This service can be found in the Administrative Tools --> Services. Mine was disabled. This service is installed with the Canon software.

Hope this helps.
