I like your ideas and the composition, but the second one is a bit too busy for me. And perhaps boosting the contrast and the colors could make the first one even more interesting.

Alright, thanks! The thought didn't even cross my mind about the second one being too busy, because I was so focused on "isolating" him from the buildings and junk in the area: but you're definitely right. I think the first one could use a boost like you said, but I had trouble upping the color without turning his skin orange. Maybe I need to select him and do an inverse selection... or just select the graffiti..
