Thank you Sunnygirl for the nice comment -- Here's one more taken with my newest lens addition (17-55IS 2.8), This one is taken outside Sorry for the background being "blown-out" but her expressiion of "grampa-- are we done with this photo nonsense yet??!! " I just had to rescue this expression. The "looks" you get from newborns are so fascinating-- makes you wonder what is going thru those new little minds??

Like my grandma always says... gotta get them used to & trained to see that camera so that they dont even faze when it is around... she said she has gotten some awesome shots of hers (me included) she is now 81 almost 82. I know this is a fairly not so new post but thought i would take this time to say hi & say I am new to the forum, new to posting, and well ummmmm.... New to DSLR stage. lol I have / had a kodak digital and well for my birthday (getting it early from hubby & MIL) I will be getting (should arrive on wed june 24) a Canon Rebel xsi. I cant hardly wait... as that kodak had manual but... argh... it didnt always want to do what i know it should have been doing. So will enjoy learning the new camera... I dont have grandkids, but I have lots of nieces & nephews which are my grandmas grandkids, she doesnt usually take pics anymore, I do it all for her... so hope it is ok if I post them here (kinda on behalf of her gloating over her babies :) as she calls us all :)

Actually, I was just going to bed. I babysit the boys until 2 a.m. when their mommy gets off work at the hospital.

I know he looks big in this photo but he is pretty teeny...barely 10 bs. soaking wet. :)

Nice to hear that Ellie is back up to snuff. Kids bounce back so nicely.
I babysit my grandsons three 13 hours days/week and keep Sophie every other Friday. Then I work three 13 hour shifts at the hospital myself.

My wife is a retired RN. Graveyard shift for 39 years. She's happy to be out of it. She enjoyed the work but hospital politics got in the way of patient care.

Awesome photo's everyone!! Such little treasures all them.
I have six grandbabies...well they aren't really babies but my baby daughter still is my baby girl and she 29 so I guess with the oldest grandchild being 14 they can be my grandbabies LOL!!

Well here is one pic for now as I am having technical problems getting POTN to accept my downsized images for some unknown reason...probably the user not the program.
I will have to get a handle on the resizing crap. It is driving me nuts. I will have to look for a tutorial on photoshop elements. Darn noobie I know.
I thought learning all the technical mumbo jumbo about DSLR's was overwhelming hahha guess I have a lot to still learn.
So since it is so late here's The twins for tonight. They turned 5 on July 12th, they were the best birthday present this grandma ever got!!

Well I think you did an awesome job, probably created a better memory than trying to get a shot off while they were on the stage.
Just to bad for the money paid for the classes and outfits that they just can't allow pictures to be taken without flashes.
I'm bad tho....I always sneek my camera in and snap off a few shots anyways. Just can't help myself LOL!!

Teacher's minimum requirements for photographing ballet:

f/2.8 or faster lens
Quiet mode shutter
No flash
1.6 crop or larger sensor for high ISO performance

Your Mark III fits the bill.

For three years, I shot from a tripod at the back of the theater or in the balcony, long lenses and pro cameras. I gave her a DVD of the images and sold at cost to any parent that wanted one of their child. This past year she decided, I think, that too few were buying the posed portraits done by some semi-pro and she forbid me directly to shoot at the theater. I had always been quiet and discreet. The video guys who shoot a dvd of the whole performance worked next to me and told me when I inquired that they had no problem with my setup.

Up to that moment I had done a lot of freebies for her, so I told her that she wouldn't be getting anything else free from me. Her photographer still does crappy shoots and she still poses the kids in a static fashion. So, this year my daughter asked me to do the girls at home, because she didn't want to buy the studio product. Of course I take traditional poses, but I also have the girls dance and try to capture the movement--or freeze it, at least.

Sad. At least your loved ones will have your images to help remember their youth.

This is one of my favorite pictures, not because of its technical merit, but because of who's in it (my granddaughter) and who took it (my daughter).

Even though I like the expression on the first one he is in Packer's Green & Gold! :) Actually the second image will probably fit best with the photos of his cousins. I will find a spot for both of them for sure!!

She looks good in natural light with the 50D. How are you liking it so far compared to the 30D?

It's a world of difference. And I really liked that 30D. This 50D focuses so fast I don't realize it. I find myself wondering when it is going to focus.

These shots were ISO2000 and little noise. The 30D wasn't that good.

Yeah on that other picture. Eva and her anger issues. She thinks she is the boss, even of older kids. They weren't actually fighting, just playing.

That big screen is nice too. You know when the kids are in focus.

Update from Mom (posted on a special needs forum):

Yay; we found out what it was. Apparently, she has post-viral delayed gastric emptying, or gastroparesis. Her first episode in December was actually caused by a virus. The virus caused a malfunction in her stomach emptying; her stomach would fill when she ate and then hold the contents for longer than usual. This caused her stomach pain and vomiting. So she has to eat 6 smaller lower-fat meals a day as opposed to 3 larger fatty meals. Her doc said it should resolve itself, with the help of the new diet and some prevacid. No surgery; wooo hoooo!

We're trying our best to keep her healthy for the "big one" in April when the docs redirect her urinary system to make her continent. The kids got a peek at her chart (they weren't escorted from the exam room; by now they know their way around the hospital) after the GI exam and her urologist was adamant on the chart about resolving this problem for the upcoming surgery.

I don't think anyone can argue that there is a better subject to photograph than children. Their purity is captured so graciously by the camera that every photo says a thousand words. Beautiful.

We have windows all over this big barn we live in. Lots of natural light. I have been trying to achieve some success with flash fill light. Planet Neil site suggests underexposure by 1 or 2 then fill flash in manual. This is the best result so far. At least no blown out highlights or severly underexposed areas like I have been getting.

This is Eva with her diaper hanging out.

The red x occurs only on facebook when transferring from photobucket. I think it's a facebook issue.
