That is so true! I find that the best Christmas Gifts (http://www.bagsoflove.co.uk/christmas/christmas-gifts.aspx) to give to proud grandparents are photo gifts (http://www.bagsoflove.co.uk/) of their beloved grandchildren. Nothing else will bring them such a Merry Christmas :)

agreed! I'm giving my parents a DVD movie of all the pictures of my boys that I've taken this year. I wanted to wait and include Christmas on it but that means they wouldn't get it until after New Years. Think I'll make sure Thanksgiving is included and call it good. They don't know yet and since they are 15hours away and haven't seen my boys in 4.5years, it'll be a wonderful surprise! :D

Here is my favorite big guy on his birthday (Aug. 29). He took 4 friends miniature golfing, then had a BBQ at home. I made his Mario Bros. cake.

OMG 4.5 YEARS!! Did they do something wrong or what? I would be soooo very sad if I didn't see all my grandbabies for that long. I guess I am very lucky that I have a great relationship with my daughters and that I can visit them when ever I want to.
There would be no way that a 15 hr ride could stop me from going for a visit at least twice a yr.

Every year I make a book (or calendar) for the parents and grandparents through MyPublisher.com (Costco). The program loads onto your computer, it has tons of options and you can add as many pages as you like. For about $75 (or less) I can put in a whole year's worth of photos that my son can take to the office, that my mom loves to pour over every week; that their mom takes to work and shows off her kids. They last a lifetime as well.

No .... they didn't do anything wrong but with one special needs child and one somewhat hyperactive child (ok, so really - both of my boys are special needs) there is no way *I* could handle a 15hour drive in the car with them. My parents did make the drive down here twice, but both of my parents are in declining health (still healthy but they're older and my mom especially, can't handle long car rides due to her MS). My parents can't afford to fly down here, and even if they could, my mom doesn't feel she could handle the flight.
As far as us flying up there? Well, there's 4 of us.... 4 plane tickets X $300 (at least) a pop = $1200 and that doesn't count having to get a hotel and rental car for whatever length of time we'd be up there. that's a LOT of money. My younger DS and I are going to be flying up there next month and since it's just the 2 of us, we can stay with my parents and just use their vehicle to get around if we want to go somewhere they don't.

We went 2 weeks without seeing two of ours once. We saw updates on facebook and our daugther in law sent us text pictures. We even talked to them on the phone. But it was very hard. I was tearing up every time I saw a new picture of them.

That is exactly what being a grandparent is all about. I enrolled my six year old twin grandsons in swimming and teared up just watching how awesome they did. Best 130.00 dollars I spent in a long while. What more could one ask for...they learn water basis's and have a blast doing it.

AWE my heart goes out to the whole family. That is so sad. If I had a lot of money I would send it to your family to make the trip! At least they can have pictures and if they have a computer and a web cam then you guys could at least see each other and talk that way. I do have a web cam not an expensive one but I could send it to you if you need one.
I fully understand special needs children. One of my twin grandsons has Aspergers. He is a very good little boy but sometimes it is very hard for my daughter to deal with him. I try and give her a break by taking the twins for a sleep over at least once a month. Their father is one of those lovely dead beat dads. He moved out of town a year ago and has only seen them once since then and called maybe twice. I think they are better off but feel bad for them. Every family has to bare their own crosses I guess. Some of us have it better than others. Hugs and best wishes to all your family!:)

Of course I can see that, I'm a grandma too!! And I love all my grandbabies to! I love his little curly cues, your gonna cry when his momma chops them off as it will make him look that much older. I was very sad when my daughters twins got their first big boy hair cuts and they lost that real baby quality. LOL we never want them to grow up for sure.

jk0662 - enjoy that sweet baby! He's beautiful!
and Maureen ... those beautiful curls .... so sad they never came back. My younger DS had curlyish hair at that age and now that he's growing his hair out (ya know, the skater look?) it looks like at the very ends it might curl again .... wheeee!

Kaylee was willing to let Papa try out the Sigma after having some work done on it.

But the deal was she could take some pictures with Papa's camera too! So here is here second shot with no help!!
Not too bad for a 4 year old with a 7d 1.4f lens and a 580EX flash mounted to boot! She had the focus square perfect on her mom's eye!!
I think I have a photography buddy for life, how about you?

Ellie had a special visitor from New Mexico, an adopted girl with OEIS. Their moms had hooked up on Facebook and met at our house for an overnighter. They toured a large diary farm (Fair Oaks), watched calves being born, burned up the leftover fireworks, caught fireflies, tormented Ellie's dog, and left the house in shambles. :)
