Just put on order at B&H a 70-200L f/4. Also the other day I got ahold of a used 580ex with a Sto-fen Omni-Bounce. I'm so excited as the last tele lens I owned was a 70-300 is, which I didnt like. Also I have never used a flash. Kinda scared about the flash, I hear the learning curve is long and steep.

You are going to love the 70-200 F4 L, but be careful once you buy your first L it is hard to stop.
Enjoy!

Congrats on new baby L , got mine yesterday , brilliant , only had a chance
to use it round the house but little details are so sharp , just need to learn how to do it justice now ! As regards learning flash they drive me mad so big and cumbersome people look at you as if you are David Bailey , only tip i can give is to be carefull of the colour you are bouncing off anything but white give some strange shades !

I agree with the others - you are going to have fun. The same one was my first L. I later got the 17-40L too. I am working hard at doing justice to both of them. Congratulations!

A little off topic but, what bag do use to carry your gear in? I just purchased the 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS lens and 1.4 Extender II and well my old bag ain't gonna cut it. My other gear is listed below:
Canon 20D, 28-135 IS, 50 1.8, Kit lens, 550EX flash, batter charger for both the flash and the camera and other odds and ends. Thanks.

After trying many, many bags, I finally settled on the Lowepro Orion AW. It is a kind of belt pack/shoulder bag (either or both, your choice), holds all my gear including the big zooms, and opens AWAY from you, as all bags really should. Comes with a "daypack" backback conversion, if you need some extra room for personal items, but I never use that part of it.
Extremely comfortable, durable, versatile, protective, attractive bag, IMHO.
Cheers,
Jeff

Using a flash is not that hard. Takes some time to learn how to control the light as you want. I shot a test subject....a small teddy bear....many time with different angles, lenses, bounce orientations, etc. to learn how to get the photos perfectly. I use the Stofen Omnibounce and a 420EX. The secret is to light up the subject, but not make it look like you used a flash.
In this photo, two subjects are wearing glasses, so I turned the bounce head to face up and behind me. There was an off-white wall about 4 feet behind me. The flash bounce lit up the entire wall and I had this nice diffuse glow to the room. Since I was so close to the subjects...about 4 feet, I could not have pointed the bounce head up, as this would have cast a shadow and not looked as good. It helps to have your subjects drunk though, since they are more patient with you fooling around with your camera than a sober person would be. :)

Yeah, I agree. I bought a 17-40L, 50 1.8, and swore off buying lenses. Then someone posts a 70-200 L on the For Sale and I am starting to itch. Do I really need it? Yes. No. Help. No.

B&H is driving me crazy, first they charge my card, then cancel the order for some reason unknown to them. Now im on the phone and they said to try it over the phone. I just checked my bank and it says they already used the funds but it's pending....on what? So B&H charged tha card again....AHHH....i better not wake up tommorrow to a -$400 checking account.

Ouch! I hope everything works out. I have to say I am surprised with the problems you are having with B&H. I've bought tons of stuff from them with no problems. Maybe you can get them to throw in a free filter?

To be completly honest this is prolly my 10th order with B&H. I practically swear by them. But they put me on hold forever and then they just closed their offices and I got disconnected. Im pretty ticked. The worst part is that I wont have the lens now by the weekend, which makes me wanna cry.

Well I wake up and low and behold my bank account is normal. No charges. So now that it's going to be a while I'm debating whether to sell my 300d w/kit & grip and buy 20d, or buy 17-40L f/4, or maybe attempt again at 70-200L f/4. GRRRRR Im thinking the 20d would help out alot and the longer I wait on selling my 300d the farther the resell drops.
