I just learned how to do a proper BW conversion. So please critique everything including that.
I'm sorry she's not looking at the camera.

Looks pretty good, but the highlights appear featureless and blown around the nose and neck. Having the extremes of black and white to capture makes life very difficult! Perhaps shoot her under softer light... early morning or late evening, when the contrast won't be as dramatic. If it weren't for the fact she wouldn't stay still, you could try HDR. More generally, the shot appears detailed and well executed. The choice to have her nose finish only half way in to the shot makes it a bit more dynamic... highlights the possibility of sudden forwards movement. It's a bit frustrating not knowing whether she's standing or sitting - maybe it's more obvious to someone used to dogs. I don't see you'd lose a lot by shifting around to the right a bit, and you might get both eyes in which always helps. Cheers, Tony

My suggestion would be to look at the histogram for this image and decide for yourself whether or not the image has lost too much detail in the blacks and highlights - especially the blacks.
I think you wil find that the image needs a bit of fill light in the lower range of tones.

I actually helped her process this shot; I got her into photography over christmas, so I'm trying to teach her some stuff about photoshop as well. I know there is some detail in the blacks, but less in the whites. I'll see if we can't go back and pull some of it out. Thanks robert.
