Do you guys listen to songs when you photograph?

:):)

I always do. I just feel that music inspire me more. More fun to take pictures with songs as background music.

I mainly shoot events, so listening to my ipod while shooting might probably make me lose focus and trip over all sorts of things, probably killing my camera that way.

I do listen to music when I'm editing though..

No. I shoot landscapes. To me, standing on a mountain top, enjoying the peace and quite, listening to the wind softly rustle thru the trees is the most beautiful music of all.

masayako,
No, I usually shoot nature (while we still have it) so I listen to the sounds of nature. However when behind the computer I love to run my mp3's ;)

When I'm shooting in towns/cities, I do listen to music. Means I generally get left alone to get on with whatever I'm doing. Easiest way to hide in London is to listen to an mp3 player too loudly.

No, for the same reasons listed above. Plus I like to hear my gear working (lenses focusing, etc) and listen for any people incase I get in their way or something.

Nope. I like to be immersed in the environment I shoot in.

:-)

That sounds pretty good. In reality, I probably wouldn't feel comfortable listening to music and shooting at the same time.

It's been since X-mas break since I shot without it being PJ work, so no.

Usually no. I can find some good shots based on what I hear. Especially at events/parties.

No. I mostly shoot racing and it would be suicide to have earphones blasting and not hear an out of control car barreling my way.

But I love to listen to music while I edit pics :)

Ditto, too much going around me at pro games that it would just distract. Plus at High School and Youth events I get approached a lot by parents about photos so having the ipod going would deter them from doing and hurt sales.

Most of my shoots are in recording studios so there's always music :)

Nature, BIrds and such.....

Can't find the birds if you're not listening :)

I listen to whatever is blowing in the breeze while hiking trails. Helps me focus on finding an image. But when I'm at the computer, I'll kick in my classic rock playlist. Nothing goes with Photoshop like Aerosmith or Def Leppard!8-)

I've never listened to music when out taking pictures.

I prefer to take in the environment around me, including the sounds. Never know, you might pick up on something you wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

Editing, however, is an entirely different story. I need my music to edit.

Outside, hells no. In studio, hells yes. :D

Aside from music when shooting modeling work, no, but I guess it would be an interesting experiment trying a street photography shoot, listening to something like industrial music while trying to operate with some kind of rhythmic pace...I'd probably crash into someone or something, though:)!

I shoot a lot of Performing Arts, so there's no way around it then ;)

In the studio: Mostly yes, certainly when shooting models. Helps the "ambience".

Outside: Nope.

I have a bright yellow pair of huge muff style earcups with a built in FM radio I wear when shooting at the local dragstrip. Nothing keeps an annoying drunken dragrace fan from making stupid comments about being able to see Uranus with a lens that big like a big yellow pair of earmuff headphones. I would much rather listen to FM than a bubba with a beer. Other than that, no, I do not listen to music unless someone else has it on while I am shooting.

I do a lot of air shows and it's pretty hard to listen to music when you've got an F-18 in full afterburner screaming over your head at 700 MPH...

If it's not an event then yes. That really only includes when I'm out and about walking around, not including hiking.I also listen when I edit. I thought that was what you were asking 'cause I'm doing it right now.

*Don't stop! Believin'! Hold onto that feeeelllin'!*

They put on a mad show. It has to be, they have cannons going off, inside.

I always use music in studio, it relaxes everyone! Outside I only use the music of nature. And I like listening to music while editting! My two cents...

I've got my iPod on when shooting street. It allows me to focus and not get distracted by my environment or falter from boredom when loitering around a particular area.

I've usually got Pat Metheny on when editing, too.

I can't see myself listening to music while shooting unless everyone else is hearing the same thing (DJ's) then i can get into other people mood/rhythm. If it's just me and my ipod, I'll most likely get side tracked and miss some good moments even though im good at multitasking.
