Hello forum members !

I'm now in a process of saving for a 20D and hope to get it within the next two or three months. :D
Today when I looked around in a photo store, I saw a used 70-200 2.8 L lens. It was checked by Canon and should be in a good mechanical and optical condition.
From the outside it looks very very used and very scratched. When the zoom ring is turned between ca 100 and 160 a little constant restistance is noticeable.
The price of the lens is € 450 which is very cheap for such a fine lens IMHO.

What do you think? Should I consider buying this lens?

I could return it within one week if I was not satisfied with it.

Is it ok to get such a lens when i havenīt even a camera to mount it on ?

Greetings
Helmut

You get what you pay for, if you're lucky! It sounds like that lens has taken a beating. I wouldn't.

It sounds like that lens has been used hard and possibly by a photojournalist. Having BEEN a PJ I wouldn touch anything that a PJ sold. Now if they'll give you a six month warantee maybe that changes things up.

By the way a new 70-200 f2.8 L (non IS) would be just over 800 Euros from B&H. I have no idea what the import duties might be, but 450 Euros doesn't sound like that good a deal for such a chewed lens.
