I'm in the midst of shopping for a tele-zoom and read recently that lenses designed for 35mm camera will lose two stops if placed on a DSLR. After extensive research, I have not seen any info on this. Does anyone know if that's true or just bunk.

Not true.

I may be wrong but I do however recall reading something about gaining light with digital or something of that fact

I would think the opposite is closer to the truth--although the exposure should not change, digital cameras may pick up an "effective" stop or two due to lower noise and ability to use higher ISO values.

Assuming the software in the camera body emulates the ISO values for film properly, there will be absolutely NO difference in the way a lens performs on a film camera vs a digital one.

Even though some of the lens image is chopped off by the smaller digital format, the LIGHT PER AREA that the lens gives remains the same so you don't lose any light at all.
