Went iceboating for the first time today - a lot of fun, things absolutely FLY. I would say we got ours going a good 40-50mph. Really really scary

That looks like a blast!

I would love to see a panning shot to get a sense of speed.

What part of the bay was this? Not used to seeing it frozen over this much

I really wanted a panning shot too- but I was using my 200-500mm tamron which is nearly impossible to hand hold...so I was limited to using very high shutter speeds. Next time i'm gonna bring my monopod so I can get some panning shots.

Good start here. nearly impossible to hand hold...so I was limited to using very high shutter speeds. Next time i'm gonna bring my monopod so I can get some panning shots. I've always felt that a monopod is a PITA unless I had to shoot with a big lens all day. For me, it's easier to hand hold: see post #5:

Yea I don't really like bringing my monopod anywhere - but when I go to the racetrack I bring it as I will be shooting all day usually with an enormous lens. If I am using a 200mm or less it's easier for me to hand held without having a bunch of shake.

Bringing my camera out on the ice was an afterthought, didn't really know what to expect- next time i'll be more prepared
