cheap, sturdy, holds my HP 17" notebook well, Canon XT, and 2 lenses and lots of assessories. I saw one at best buy once, but their price was 80.00 But go there if you want to physically check one out.

Price range would help people in helping too. There are tons of backpacks out there.

If you mean "travel" by air, make sure to pull the trigger on the bag that is air carry-on compliant...

I have been using the Thinktank Urban disguise camera bag and have had great success going in and out of airports . I have a Canon 5d mk2 with 3 lens and flash and have not had any issues with it...

a friend of mine is going to give me a NANEU PRO bag (he is not using it anymore); how will this compare to the suggestions made? (the one that holds just one dSLR)

Am taking a Trip to Spain in a few months..

My idea is to bring the following

Canon 20D |
50mm F 1.4 EF USM |
12-24mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG Sigma |
Sigma DG-500 flash |
CANON 24-105mm F/4L

The Lowepro Computrekker AW or the Lowepro Fastpack 350. Computrekker is a traditional backpack with built in All Weather Cover. I does com in handy.
The Fastpack 350 has a bit more storage space on top for larger items. It does allow you to access your gear while not having to remove your back pack. It does come in handy.
The Fastpack 250 will hold a 15 laptop. However it does not have a chest strap. On a backpack this keeps the two backpack straps from spreading apart, thus less strain on the shoulders and body.

I had this bag for a while before I sold it.

The bag by itself is not bad, but my biggest problem with it was that it wouldn't fit into the overhead bins of all the airlines I flew in a 8 month period. It fit fine in Asiana and Singapore Airlines International flights (Boeing 747, Boeing 777 and Airbus A380), was a bit tight but managed to go in on a United Airlines domestic flight, but was totally useless on a domestic Jetstar and VirginBlue flights in Australia.

The bag is quite bulky, and has a semi-rigid camera compartment on the base which sticks out a fair bit, meaning you whack a lot of things if you turn around with the bag on your back.

The camera compartment itself is a bit hard to access while carrying the bag. And for the size, not a lot seems to fit in a convenient manner. I had a gripped 400D, 3 lenses and flash. there was plenty of space for it all, but it was hard to re-arrange the inserts to easily access everything.

One good point though...the backpack is a DREAM to carry around on your back. That suspension system it has works wonderfully well, and even with a fully loaded backpack, it wasn't a strain to carry around.

I have this backpack too, it goes with me everywhere. It is big, but I've never had any problem carrying it on a plane.

Thanks Nick

I will check these bags today at the local Camera Shop, Like what someone else was saying I will prefer something that is easy on the back as well as easy to put on the overhead bins...

Plus EASY ON THOSE AIRPORT SECURITY GUYS!

I've been hunting for a 2nd bag (currently have the Slingshot 200) for a couple months... want to be able to carry a laptop, and more lenses than what I can carry now.
The Computrekker is now my leading contender, but I'm not sure that it can carry some of my lenses upright, so I may have to lay down more than I want, losing a lot of space (135L, 100 Macro, and I know the 100-400 and 70-200 have to lay down)

The Computrekker is really similar to the one my friend is going to give me... As per another poster is true is a bit bulky and might not suit my needs on the airplane since is built thought but not for overhead bins

I've been using the Tamrac Expedition 5. Excellent, very well padded straps and back. There are five bags in the line, all of which are excellent and differ only in size. The Exp 6 (see photos) and up has room for a laptop. I think you would need at least the 6 to hold your lenses and accessories. Tripod straps onto back between the two small pockets.

It's for camera gear only; the Adventure series has space for some clothes.

I have a Crumpler Sinking Barge. Absolutely love it.

Its more of a 'backpack that you can carry your camera in when you need to' rather than 'camera bag that happens to have straps to hold it on your back' like the Tamrac ones are. If that makes any sense. I use it as my everyday backpack and can pull the whole camera section out if i want to carry a jacket or something in instead. Holds a 15" mac perfectly. Can fit a camera + 2 spare lenses in the camera section. I have my telephoto in a separate padded bag that i just throw on top of the camera in the camera pocket when I need it.

how about a Burton Zoom?
Plenty of room for the gear you list. The pocket in the front should be big enough for a 15" macbook - I'll have to borrow a friend's to confirm, since i only carry a 13.3" around with me.
Plus it has a decent sized pocket on top for accessories and other travel stuff.

I know what you mean... I have some TIMBACK2 that I did some modification and I use them for everyday use. But the Fastpack seems like a better alternative with the swing like style to take off and on the camera while sightseeing, etc...

Check out the Mountainsmith Borealis AT backpack. It is comfortable, holds a laptop, basic gear and can hold other essentials as well.

I've been looking for a bag to carry my gear and my macbook too.
The problem is, I don't really like backpacks. :/

I'm possibly going to Europe in April, so I need one too.

I've been searching for a big with those same requirements. Trying to convince myself to finally buy this one:

If you're after a messenger, this one looks promising, although I have no experience with it.

They've got a pretty good deal on it at ebags.com with Live cashback. Ends up being around $80US shipped.

I went from a Think Tank Urban Disguise 40 to a Tenba Messenger small when I needed a camera/laptop bag and used it for a year. I liked it well enough - swapped the Tenba strap for the Think Tank's Curved Comfort - but preferred the better-considered design of the Think Tank. The insert in the Tenba isn't as well-designed as I'd like and had difficulties supporting my 5D/24-70/70-200 combo. the dividers simply aren't tall enough, IMO.

I got a UD50 this past Christmas and retired the Tenba.

I always have to step in and mention that I like my Lowepro Compurover. It's the only computer bag i've ever owned that recognizes that a laptop comes with a power cable.

I saw other recommendations for this bag too so I started checking it out. It is about twice as much as the Tenba though, unless I'm missing a good place to look.

I currently have the Tenba, but after reading this, I'm so tempted to get the UD 50. Missed out on the 11% Bing.com cashback from Adorama, but I think you can still get 8% off from ebay.
