I've got a canon D30 and a sigma 24-70 f/2.8. They work great with each other. I had a 70-200 sigma f/2.8 which was also excellent. If you can't afford canon L lenses, I'd advice you the sigma lenses and especially the 70-200. The 24-70 has no ultrasonic motor :-(
If you wanna see some examples, just ask me ...

I have a Sigma 17-35 f2.8, Canon D-30 and Canon A2.
The Sigma's autofocus does NOT work on my D30 !
Any Ideas?? Are they just not compatable?

I shoot sports for the local paper and anything else I want with a D-30 and a sigma 50-500. I have never had a focus problem or any other problem for that matter.

I have used the 28-70/2.8 with a D30, D60 and 1D. It works ok with them all. On the D30 and D60 the lens barrel blocks the flash at the bottom of the frame at short focal lengths. The autofocus is a little bit ragged in some situation, but generally works ok with the Canon bodies.

Heard bad reports about some Sigma lenses (e.g. 17-35) on the D60, but I have the 15-30mm EX DG which seems to be a much better quality lens. Works fine for me!

I have the Sigma 15-30, 70-200 f/2.8 and the 2x telconvertor which I'm very peased with. They all work well on the D30 and I see no reason why they wouldn't work on D60.

I heared that some Sigma lenses require a chip upgrade to function correctly with Canon's D series cameras.

interesting....
i will contact sigma about this.
i get no attempt to focus with the sigma lens on the D30... but my canon lenses focus fine...
the sigma lens always focuses on the a2...
so annoying!

Compatability depends on the age of your sigma lenses.
Recently bought an EOS30 and had to send my older Sigma lenses back to Sigma to be re-chipped.
Apparently Canon don't like other lens manufacturers.
strange!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Mike,
thank you for reply. it will be great if you'll send me some samples.
new question (maybe, silly): so far, cameras such D60 still increase ficus length (as i know k=1,6). is it critical point for you.
thanks
dmitry.
PS. I am novice in your forum and was really suprise to get so many replies :)))))))

Dmitry,
There are no silly question ;-)
For the focal length multiplier (x1.6) I would tell you that it's no problem for me since my D30 was my first SLR. So I wasn't accustomed to the field of view of non-digital SLR.
If you're new to SLR world, I don't think this will bother you much. But if no, I would suggest you maybe to buy a wide angle lens to compensate this multiplier (or field of view crop). Canon makes a 16-35 L or if you can't afford it Sigma makes a 15-30 mm.

I use the Canon D-30 with Sigma's 14mm f2.8, 24-70mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f2.8.
For several years, I had been using strictly Canon lense, but when I wanted faster glass, the Canon L lenses were priced well out of the market.
I get superb results with the Sigma EX lenses, and have much better available light capability than with the non-L Canons.
I have no difficulties with any of them in any mode, including the 70-200mm using the EX doubler. The 24-70mm is noisier than the others, since it is not HSM... but it doesn't interminably autofocus 'hunt' like my slower 28-105 Canon did in low light.
