You sure it wasn't Rene (with one E), a very common male French Canadian name around here.

One I'm not really sure about. I don't think I ever saw his name spelled out. The other was definitely two (uh... three, actually) E's, but with an accent over the middle one. And, he's French, but now that I think about it I don't know if he's "France" French or "Canada" French.

Cold here, too. It's been raining all week and the temps have been dropping steadily. There's even a slight hint of possible snow in my forecast for this weekend. And I love it! Keep spring away from me, please!

Back in the day when I actually used an alarm, the radio station it was set to played Golden Earings Radar Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ4EID2hjxY). As the song picked up tempo, I was boogieing myself slowly to full consciousness. :D groovin' to the beat, and by the end of it I was completely awake.

G'morning! Kona is on his way to the vet for yet another set of shots. Dan's going to schedule the "hacking away K's male doghood by a knife" surgery too.

Looks like he's getting the hang of it.

I looked at the other Kona videos, too... I especially loved the Kona vs Doorstop one. Too precious!

lol, thanks. He's learning. Yesterday was a huge improvement, thanks to the suggestions I got from the guys here.

Besides, I have barely had any winter fun yet.

there's NO winter fun here...you slog in the rain...you look for something that has contrast to shoot in all the gray...you freeze your blooming arse off in the wet and wind...IT SUCKS.

Not like you right-ponders. Heck, you don't even speak the same language most of the time!

And, I honestly don't think I have an accent. Do I? Kit? Puddles? Permie? Anyone?

I think you sounded rather Romanian.

*pleads the 5th*

oh perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned it :o

Hope you feel better Cat!

I, too, am angsting for spring a bit *sigh*

oooh sweet! another like mind!

Yes, yes he did. :p

There sure has been a huge move towards girls getting boys names over the years. Here are some names that were originally male, some may surprise.

Alexis (http://everything2.com/title/Alexis), Allison (http://everything2.com/title/Allison), Ashley (http://everything2.com/title/Ashley), Aubrey (http://everything2.com/title/Aubrey), Audrey (http://everything2.com/title/Audrey), Beverly (http://everything2.com/title/Beverly), Brook (http://everything2.com/title/Brook), Carol (http://everything2.com/title/Carol), Courtney (http://everything2.com/title/Courtney), Dana (http://everything2.com/title/Dana), Ethel (http://everything2.com/title/Ethel), Evelyn (http://everything2.com/title/Evelyn), Florence (http://everything2.com/title/Florence), Gail (http://everything2.com/title/Gail), Glenn (http://everything2.com/title/Glenn), Haley (http://everything2.com/title/Haley), Hillary (http://everything2.com/title/Hillary), Jocelyn (http://everything2.com/title/Jocelyn), Kelly (http://everything2.com/title/Kelly), Kelsey (http://everything2.com/title/Kelsey), Kimberly (http://everything2.com/title/Kimberly), Lacy (http://everything2.com/title/Lacy), Lauren (http://everything2.com/title/Lauren), Leslie (http://everything2.com/title/Leslie), Lindsey (http://everything2.com/title/Lindsey), Lynn (http://everything2.com/title/Lynn), Madison (http://everything2.com/title/Madison), Marion (http://everything2.com/title/Marion), Meredith (http://everything2.com/title/Meredith), Morgan (http://everything2.com/title/Morgan), Paige (http://everything2.com/title/Paige), Robin (http://everything2.com/title/Robin), Shannon (http://everything2.com/title/Shannon), Shelley (http://everything2.com/title/Shelley), Shirley (http://everything2.com/title/Shirley), Stacy (http://everything2.com/title/Stacy), Sydney (http://everything2.com/title/Sydney), Taylor (http://everything2.com/title/Taylor), Tracy (http://everything2.com/title/Tracy), Vivian (http://everything2.com/title/Vivian), Whitney (http://everything2.com/title/Whitney)

Some of those I'd have never guessed were men's names in the first place. Like Shirley? or Ethel?

Ali doesn't understand that I keep books. She also has problems with me wanting to keep dvds that I've watched.

oh man! Thankfully Dan is a fellow hoarder of books and dvds. We watch our dvds over and over. Same with reading our books.

I can see her point. The late fees you get must be astronomical.

hahaha! Nice.

BTW, Lonnie has a Californian accent. Really strong one, too. Took some getting used to.

that's because it's Romanian. You had a californian accent until we nationalized you.

Man, what did I do with that shot of TD? Hmmm....
LOL!!

Hey. Just watch out for Freddy.

It's not as safe. I guess I'm a bad parent because I've always just thrown them in the car or in the back of the truck.

I did cringe the a while back when I saw a guy with a flatbed truck used for mobile welding. He had a little heeler about 6 or 8 weeks old on the bed with about 2 feet of rope tying it to the welder. Dogs belong in the back of the truck but that was a little to extreme for me.

it's just not as safe for dogs (according to the books)True but that is a judgment call as to what works best for you. The dangers are that the dog is a projectile in a wreck and you or it can get hurt. That said I have always had free range pups in the car. They live to look around and smell out the window.

Dogs belong in the back of the truck but that was a little to extreme for me.
I will disagree with that though not hold it against anyone. A small swerve or break check and your dog gets ejected. Very uncool.

I understand. It do end up worrying a lot if they are back there and my driving changes dramatically. I won't go on the highway or major roads.

I keep a rope that runs from side to side of the bed right up against the cab. They are on a short lead of about 18". This lets them move side to side, look around, lie down etc but not get up on the side of the bed.

Sounds like Jasper, he still gets car sick. The short jaunts are not as bad. He will have to learn, we have some big road trips coming up in the years to come. I use a seat belt for him most of the time. It is a harness with a detachable loop that fastens to the seat belt. Along with safety, it also keep him for running around in the car. We both keep a couple big towels is our cars, both to cover our leather seats, as well as cleanup if needed. ;)
it's just not as safe for dogs (according to the books)
It is safer, but the crate needs to be anchored to be effective. The seat belt we use is good too. Jasper is the first dog I have had that uses any of this safety stuff, that I have had.

there's NO winter fun here...you slog in the rain...you look for something that has contrast to shoot in all the gray...you freeze your blooming arse off in the wet and wind...IT SUCKS.

I agree, tho to be fair, there is a certain moodiness that can be enjoyed during the winter. I do love to go to the beach when it is dark grey, windy and sideways rain *sigh*

Good stuff. :D
I don't do RAID, but I do backup everything to 2 different external hard drives. 1 gets done automatically, the other I do a complete backup of files on every so often. It would not be a bad idea to set up a RAID system. I know what it does, but haven't a clue how to do it.

I still haven't gone and bought a new hard drive for my computer yet. I was kinda holding off, because I want to reformat the whole thing anyway. I think I will use one of my 250gb drives and have the dealer install Vista and Office on it. They will do this for free because I bought there. I will keep the one with all my programs on it separate so as I reload everything, I will have a good backup to get necessary files from. I think this should work good for me, but being not much of a computer whiz I may be wrong in my thinking.

That'll teach ya. Went for a cheaper brand didn't you. Thought you'd save a bit, right? Started to think economically. Sure, fiscal responsibility in these tough times is to be lauded, but with Hot Chocolate? Hmm? Really? You think that you can save a couple of fivers a year on a cheaper and lower quality Hot Chocolate will make that much of a difference? You think there's some banker in Cleveland, Ohio thinking, "Golly, if only someone would get that cheaper stuff. Then we'd be OK for generations." Huh? Is that what you think? HUH?

IT WON'T, MR. PENNY PINCHER!!

Drive a car for another year before getting another. Or don't get so many unnecessary trinkets at the duty-free shop. But chimp on Hot Chocolate? FOR THE LOVE OF LITTLE MARSHMALLOWS! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!!

Giggle, giggle...

We got a spiffy new coffee machine in our department at work. It makes about a dozen different kinds of coffees, lattes, mochas, hot chocolates, etc. at the press of a button. Put your cup under the spigot, push the button next to what you want and in less than a minute it's ready. I wonder how much this thing cost... It even grinds the beans fresh for each cup!

Maybe the management sensed the unrest among the employee(s) and this is bribery. When Ryan was getting ready to lay off almost the entire hourly workforce in 1998, we started getting free fresh coffee, donuts and bagels in the mornings and pizza for lunch a couple times a week.

Back in the day when I actually used an alarm, the radio station it was set to played Golden Earings Radar Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ4EID2hjxY). As the song picked up tempo, I was boogieing myself slowly to full consciousness. groovin' to the beat, and by the end of it I was completely awake.

Back, many years ago, I had a clock radio. One morning it work me up to the opening phrase of the Mama's and The Papa's song "Monday, Monday..." Of course, you know what day of the week it was...

I really liked it. I tried several textures and your ice ones give it a painting kind of feel. Anyway I messed with several of your ice textures and settled on this one. I thought you might want to know.

it's just not as safe for dogs (according to the books)

I use a seat belt for him most of the time. It is a harness with a detachable loop that fastens to the seat belt. Along with safety, it also keep him for running around in the car.

It is safer, but the crate needs to be anchored to be effective. The seat belt we use is good too. Jasper is the first dog I have had that uses any of this safety stuff, that I have had.

When Buddy goes out of the house he always has a harness on. We'd rather have any pressure be on his chest than his neck. We bought a substantial climbing carabiner with a locking gate and use that to attach his harness to the seatbelt in the car.

The harness does seem better for when restraint is needed for sure. If we were to be in an accident the pressure would be on his whole chest area. I only use a collar when walking though, as he is usually off lead, but when on the lead it is not tight anyway.

Cat any word on Mason?

I just got a text a couple minutes ago (you are psychic)

Mom said:
He's doing way way better today. He's off the IV, and we are testing him off and on to see how he does off the oxygen. The doctor said probably just one more night. :D

The harness does seem better for when restraint is needed for sure. If we were to be in an accident the pressure would be on his whole chest area. I only use a collar when walking though, as he is usually off lead, but when on the lead it is not tight anyway.

We're from Oregon. We used duct tape.

No. You owe my wife a block of Wisconsin cheese. Preferably cheddar.

Ok, figure out how I can send it to you and I will. The town I work in has it's own creamery.

you're welcome and they are really NICE free actions.

sharp.

They look great! So do the photofilters ones.

And, a girl after my own heart....I love a sharp cheddar!

No worries, Miss Terri. The chipmunks to which we refer are from Mississippi and do not venture far from the Old Man River. They do, however, listen to easy listening radio stations and tend to refer to themselves as the "Love Rodents South of the Mason-Dixon Line".

No one really knows why as they are not that attractive nor do they possess any charismatic personality traits. Outside of being really good at making a mean Denver omelette.

Oh, and don't forget the Mom with the Tourette's and the wild-eyed nephew that spent the wedding gnawing on the pew. Then there's the armed guard for the cake and the pack of rabid chipmunks that attacked the pianist. Then that redwood that fell into the church right on the Officiant so that the deaf Uncle HAD TO FINISH THE SERVICE! THEN THE ALIENS! THE ALIENS THAT CAME IN THEIR LITTLE SHIPS AND STOLE THE FLOWER GIRL AWAY FOR TESTING! AND TO TOP IT OFF, I RAN OUT OF MY MEDICATIONS!! REMEMBER THAT? HUH? REMEMBER?!!!

And this one I've never heard before...

They brought me two new 500gb hard drives. So I can get my backups done on a RAID1 system.

Well I just installed a new server at work that takes over our windows 2000 server that's been running for 7 years with a 16 gig hard drive. I purchased 2 750gb hard drives for raid 1 mirror- WOOHOO! Running on a Linux server 64 bit with 8gb of DDR2 ram. How can we not fill up a hard drive in 7 years? We even had a bunch of mp3's on it.
