Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The one piece of furniture the dog is allowed on is the couch. Sometimes he has to get right next to me and press real hard, but at other times when I sit down he'll get up and move to the complete other end of the couch.
Kona's not allowed on the furniture. (I'm a meany head ;) ).

Do your dogs have to touch you when they are with you?
The dog I'm closest to does. If he is sitting next to me he leans against my legs. If he is laying down then he is on my feet.

Kona's not allowed on the furniture. (I'm a meany head ;) ).Thats how I started as well. We had two dogs, brothers and I would never let them up on the furniture. They had two very nice beds in their cages and there was a dog pillow on the floor as well. It worked great for years until one of the brothers died. One day I came home and saw the other pup on the couch. After shooing him off I come to find that my wife was feeling bad because he lost his brother and relaxed the rules.

I was stressing over the cats today, right now Eli is in the bedroom playing with snoozer :) the Cat Dancer (http://catdancer.com/catdancer.htm)does it every time!
I had off today so while Eli was at school I cleaned up an area in the closet and put a bed there so at least I know where they are most of the time. The girl kitty let me pick her up and I actually held her for a while and sat on the couch scratching her neck. When I let her go she didn't bolt but just meandered off.
This evening she's been seeking us out to play with the cat dancer. The boy played a little, but is still uber scared.
I'm feeling much better about this. I hope to play with them most of the evening to avoid yesterday's 2-4 am speedway through the house!

They will get used to you, don't stress. Cats can tell your emotions, sometimes just ignoring them and letting them get used to the space is best. Also don't show fear around them or pull away when they swat or hiss, this will just encourage the behavior.
They probably have had a rough life thus far, so only time will cure this when they come to trust you. Having a place for refuge will make them feel safe for the time being.

Yup, and jumping and letting him go lets them know it worked and you will let them go. Also utilizing the scruff of the neck to pick them up works well.
I've gone through this with many cats.

I took one or two. I haven't edited them yet, but I did edit the video. I'm starting to have fun with this video stuff. Now I'm really going to be chewing up hard drive space! The video from the trip is here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yo0aEDywp0). I wish I could figure out how to get YouTube to stop mutilating the videos when it converts them. (Edit: I figured it out... Click on the "Watch in high quality" link under the video window...)
Pretty nice video...
Save up for the next month. I'll probably be going again in late February are early March, whenever the flowers start to bloom. We can make a POTN group meet out of it.Maybe we can make it then...
I can't remember the exact model number offhand, but the one I got for the car is a Garmin. I love it. All three of my handheld units are Garmin also. I don't really have any experience with other brands, except for my very first GPS. That was a very basic Magellan unit that I didn't keep very long.We went with the Nuvi 205W. It's pretty neat and seems to be very accurate. We named it Matilda...
I used to do a lot of geocaching. I've even hidden a cache and had a couple travel bugs. I haven't done any of that recently, though.
Is your cache still active?
Ok a little lost on this one can some one explain?
I am a closet Twinkie junkie, but the deep frying destroys all those delicious preservatives I am a purist in my junk food.

Todays humor...maybe I should post in the joke thread?
Pillsbury Doughboy Obituary
Veteran Pillsbury spokesman Pop N. Fresh died yesterday of a severe yeast infection. He was 71.
Known to friends as Brown-n-Serve, Fresh was an avid gardener and tennis player. Fresh was buried in one of the largest funeral ceremonies in recent years. Dozens of celebrities turned out including Mrs. Butterworth, the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Aunt Jemima, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Skippy. The graveside was piled high with flours as longtime friend Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy, describing Fresh as a man who "never knew how much he was kneaded."
Fresh rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with many turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes -- conned by those who buttered him up.
Still, even as a crusty old man, he was a roll model for millions. Fresh is survived by his second wife. They have two children and another bun in the oven. The funeral was held at 350 for about 20 minutes.
Chuckle...
Why does day old chinese have to taste so darn good?
Ewwwwwwwwwwww! GAK! There are many things that are better on day two; pizza, spaghetti (well, any pasta), chili...but chinese just turns into this rubbery substance. Ew.
We're doing leftover home-made pizza tonight...
I'd like to WAH. Better than being stuck in an office all day. At least then I could wear my slippers. I don't have pink bunny ones though.
I like working at home (I processed the pictures from the Legends of Aviation event today). I have on flannel pants, a t-shirt and slippers...
But, I'm so afraid right now! This new interest of mine in video couldn't possibly be good for my bank account's future...
Precisely the reason I don't get into it, except for the occasion quick clip with the G5.
How can so much slime come from such a small critter.
A lot! We have a species of cowrie (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6f/Different_cowries.jpg) that indigenous to these waters. They are about an inch and half long and three-quarters of an inch wide. I once picked up a couple in the kelp bed off the coast and put them in the pocket of my wet suit. When I came out of the water I left a trail of slime everywhere I went on the boat...
Do your dogs have to touch you when they are with you? Like when Kona is laying at my feet, he has to put some part of his body on me. If he's 3ft away and laying down, it's no problem...so it's not like he has to touch me all the time. But if I'm sitting on the floor, he comes over and sits on part of me and then chews on whatever he's gnawing on. When I'm walking, he'll walk behind me and bump me (like he's herding me...it's weird...he's not a herder) and if I'm laying down on the floor with my head up he sits next to me but touching but if I put my head down on the floor he dives under my head and digs and bites at me until I get my head up.
This is how the cats are... They have to be right there where you are. Buddy, on the other hand, is perfectly content just to be in the same room. If I'm in the office, he's in there with me and if I move to the living room, he gets up and comes with me.
Thats how I started as well.
We tried keeping Buddy off the couch for all of two days...
Question for Lightroom users: Does anyone have any idea why the copy of LR 2 I have on my desktop (XP) won't let me put a upper case Z in the IPTC data fields? I can put a lower case z in there but it won't let me type the upper case letter. I even tried inserting it by a cop/paste from the character map, but as soon as I left the field, it reverted to a lower case letter. I know it's not the keyboard because I can do it other applications like Word... This isn't the case on my Laptop. There it works perfectly. It's real helpful when you have to caption images of a woman whose name is Zoe...

Catching up with 19; and Crissa - if I'd read that far along when the move came there'd be a Crissa's Cat credit in the title.
The 20th Official Random Crissa's Cat, Cat & Maggie's Dad Dog Rescue for TPBM anyone?
No doubt. I could wow you with stories of what will pass through a dog without harming them, LOL.
(By the way, pistachios are NOT one of those things. Poor Ginger)
Um. Noone.Nor are coffee grounds or chocolate, but try telling Daisy. Fortunately (for her) her stomach rebels and we get to clean it up instead of hauling her to the vet. Rhododendron blossoms are also Not Good, but that needed a vet's visit.
G'morning everyone.
It's the weirdest thing. Kona seems to behave worse when it's quiet in the house. If I have the tv off (the way I like it) he's crazy. If the tv is on, he's toned down. I don't know what I'm going to do when I have cable shut off in two weeks.Get him an iPod.
Oh cool! I'll look into that a bit more later.
And here is the camera. It's is a neat little thing.
(just quick snaps, sorry)Ah, my father has one of these. Watch out for the shutter - the metal roller-blind type blades are he|| on the shutter ribbon tapes; that's usually the first thing to go.
And this nifty little thing. I have no idea what it is, LOL! Something to do with flash I'm guessing. :lol:Bulb (M3, I believe) flash - the battery's going to be a killer to find.
 Are you looking? Heck of a crowd. Biggest ever. People rolled in as a constant wave over night and all morning. We realized it would take hours to get out so we rolled out. I have a great view here on CNN.Why we went to Florida. It certainly wasn't for the weather; the sprinklers kicked in outside our hotel in St. Augustine and there was ice all over the plants!
can I just say something?
It's very hard for me that I'm attempting to do the best for my dog and feel like I'm being told I'm a gullible idiot for doing so.
I'm sure the intentions are are good, but it is hurtful. If I thought it was safe for the dog to disregard the vet I would. I don't. That doesn't mean I like to pay for unnecc. things or freely throw my money away.
I have never said that I'm a dog expert. I've freely admitted I'm not. I've tried to research though and not head into this in complete ignorance. But the bottom line is that I'm going to error on the side of health for the dog. If that's a mistake, then so be it.Our guys get all shots regularly. We may get rescues with indeterminate health histories and don't care to have more than one ill dog at a time. Besides parvo, distemper is also difficult to eradicate from a place.
We've got our share of lens haters here too. They are those that think if it isn't an "L" it isn't worth mentioning. I shot for the longest time with the 28-135 IS which is one of the universally hated lenses (along with the 75-300 IS) and got excellent results from it. When I decided I wanted faster I replaced it with (GASP!) a 28-75 Tamron instead of the Canon 24-70.When I started here, the 28-135 was a frequently-recommended lens.
Scooter and Pokie got haircuts today.

Awwwwww!!!!
Chicago needs an Aerospace museum. The trip to DC or Florida is to far. I've been to the DC museum twice and it's awesome.EAA Museum in Oshkosh, WI. National Museum of the US Air Force (new name) in Dayton, OH.
Not to get political, but out Mayor is not a fan of Aerospace as clearly demonstrated by his midnight raid on one of the most beautiful airports of the country and bulldoze a bunch of X's in middle of the runway effectively illegally shutting it down. Which is actually a federal crime - they really ought to lock him away. And the city should reimburse all the aircraft owners who had to disassemble their planes to get them out. His reason was totally bogus.
I didn't see this until John quoted it. But there is the Air Force museum in Ohio. I went to it when I was younger...in 1992...so I don't know if they would let non-military persons on the base without a sponsor. At least I think it's on base.
Here is the website: http://www.afmuseum.com/Museum's outside the controlled area. Last time I was there (fall '07) not even a bag search.

Ok a little lost on this one can some one explain?
Started here...
Not caught up but I napped the other day in the room and woke with "I heart Beefy " scrawled on me with a sharpie
Then you said...
pm me, email me, talk about me, think about me, offer me food or shelter (I am not there yet) until after 7:35 a.m. CST 28 January 2009. I will be asleep and if you wake me I will have a come apart of nucular porportions.
And Terri said...
*passes out Sharpies* *giggles manically*
And Cat added...
I heart Beefy.
And then I read all of this early this morning, but; when I went back to pick up the quotes, seem Terri's comment was directed at Bobert.:o
I have a secret.. I actually like to take a spoonful of the powder Nestles Quick, place it into my mouth and let is slowly turn back o chocolate.
I haven't done this, but; I do put poweded Quick in my coffee and call it Cheapo Mocha. ;)
Exciting news though: I got the unofficial request from the Junior class to do their prom pictures. No $$ up front but the potential to make a bunch.
Cool, hope it turns official very soon.
I'm STOKED! I picked up a constant on light (TD5, that I've been wanting) off of fleabay. (it was a floor model from a camera store) complete with soft box/stand & lights!! It will nicely compliment my flash setup and I'm going to sell my elinchroms after all. WOO HOO!!
Sounds like a sweet deal, Lisa, congratulations.
Do your dogs have to touch you when they are with you?
Oh, yeah. Remember, they are pack animals = social critters. Wait until he noses your hand up over his head to tell you he wants you to pet him, or rests his head on your arm and gives those big old puppy eyes....this especially cool when you aren't feeling good, they know and want to tell you they are there for you.

Geez, you sure don't like chocolate much do you?:lol:
Exciting news though: I got the unofficial request from the Junior class to do their prom pictures. No $$ up front but the potential to make a bunch.
Yay!!!!
Do your dogs have to touch you when they are with you?
Cricket does. If I am sitting somewhere she has to be snuggled by me. If she gets to hot she will move her body as far away as she can and still have one foot touching me. Or if I'm sitting at the computer and she can't sit by me, she will curl up by my feet.
Well folks, a quick check in for likely the last time for at least 11 days, unless we hit perfect conditions on the trip. I will miss you all (well, a little bit anyway ). You all be good, and hopefully I will see you on this side of the 21st edition. :D
You have lots of fun!!!!! Be safe!
my dog just (what is the term?) cold clocked me. He came at me at top speed...used the ottoman as a springing board and slammed his whole body into my torso...hitting my chin with the top of his head so hard that it took me a few minutes to focus and my ears still haven't stopped ringing. Yeah. My name is Permie. I'm a cat person.

That would be my toddler. Seriously. He's WEIRD like that.

Ooo, don't forget the plastic vampire fangs. It's fun to watch people's faces when you talk seriously to them while wearing those. Oh I'm so going to.

Anyone tried shooting tethered to LR yet? (straight from camera to computer) I'm going to try it this weekend, I think.
Only using the Canon software. Works pretty slick.

I have yet to hear any purring tho
Give it a bit of time, Crissa, you are doing great!
Well folks, a quick check in for likely the last time for at least 11 days, unless we hit perfect conditions on the trip. I will miss you all (well, a little bit anyway ). You all be good, and hopefully I will see you on this side of the 21st edition. :D
Have fun and be safe Bear!
Catching up with 19; and Crissa - if I'd read that far along when the move came there'd be a Crissa's Cat credit in the title.
The 20th Official Random Crissa's Cat, Cat & Maggie's Dad Dog Rescue for TPBM anyone?
Perfect!
my dog just (what is the term?) cold clocked me. He came at me at top speed...used the ottoman as a springing board and slammed his whole body into my torso...hitting my chin with the top of his head so hard that it took me a few minutes to focus and my ears still haven't stopped ringing. Yeah. My name is Permie. I'm a cat person.
Dang! Sorry Lisa *smothers snicker*
LOTRR: That Was Unexpected.
LOL! A girl can never be too careful!
Becky, loved your replay  And the trains and such are way cool!

Ice Slayer *curtsies*
Did you get any shots of that silver train? Its shiny:D Bet Terri would like it.
Ooooh, I do, I DO!
Can I break in and ask a question? In miniaturizing really a technique?
I see your question has been answered, so welcome to Hotel CaliPOTN
