I bought an electric razor (NiMH rechargeable) over the weekend that suggested discharging the batteries completely every 6 months and recharging them to full capacity for optimal usage.
It's the first time I heard of such a strange ritual. Does anyone do this to their AA batteries?

I think that's pretty much a common known and universal thing, that you should at least try to discharge till empty and recharge to keep the life cycle good, as opposed to just charging to top up, and over charging etc.
Newer type battery such as LIPO (as far as i know) don't really develop memory or voltage depression characteristics as the older batteries.

NiMH can build up a charging memory if they aren't fully discharged before charging again.
the Canon NP-E3 charger has a refresh, which drains it to 0% and then recharges it.
Most good high quality AA chargers should have similiar features to prolong the batteries life
