Hi, I have fiddled with my 50mm macro and lifesize convertor over the last few years and been happy with the results. Whilst ordering some bits off an ebay trader in China last week I got hold of some reversing rings.

My questions are – what are the best lenses to use and in what order? And what apertures work best on the lens that is reversed?

At the end of the day I could sit and play for several weeks and work it out myself, but I don’t have the time at the minute, it makes much more sense being pointed in the right direction by people that have experience, and then fine tuning it from there.

Lenses to play with are

17-40 f4
24-105 f4
50 macro and convertor
50 f1.8 mk11
35-350

I am thinking that the 24-105 with the 50 mk11 reversed are the first port of call?
Or am I wrong, and should I be looking at the long end of the 35-350?

I will be looking for extreme close ups of insects, etc in a studio environment

Any advice will be appreciated,

Thanks

Gary

It's normal for the reversed lens to be used wide open (and focused on infinity).
Magnification of reversed lenses= existing mag + focal length main lens/focal length reversed lens.

So you could reverse your 50mm F1.8 onto your 50mm macro plus converter and get around 2:1.

For non macro lenses as the primarly lens just forget about the existing mag part of the calculation.
