He is big. I remeber riding clydesdales as a kid - one big guy was called Hector and you could have had a picnic on his back he was so wide!
Thanks for sharing and bringing back some memories.

Beautiful Animal!
When I was a kid, many years ago, my sister and I used to play 'Circus'. My Dad had a large draft horse named Hirum. He was truly a gentle giant. We would stand on his back and do amazing tricks as he walked around.
Thanks for the memory.

Wow, he is beautiful. My husband and I have two quarter horses and one percheron/appaloosa cross colt that is almost two years old (and soon to be gelded)...his name is Tatonka, his picture is below. Drafts are really amazing horses....

Congratulations! He looks like a very gentle boy. How did the "first ride" go? From your pics it doesn't look like you had much trouble. I have had my Paints since they were 4 months old, but I've always wanted a draft horse. I've always been amazed by their size and gentle disposition (kind of a necessary combination!).

his name is Tatonka
Heather, Did you name him that because of his color? It does indeed remind me of a Buffalo, color-wise, that is. Beautiful horse!

Actually, his name when we bought him was Tonka (like Tonka toy) and my husband changed it to Tatonka (Dances With Wolves, lol) but he is really black with white on his butt, just has a furry winter coat and it's sunbleached brown right now. Once summer arrives and he sheds out he should be more of a black. Allthough we may clip his coat while he is tranquilized after he gets gelded because winter is over for south Florida, lol.

Oh his a gian all right!
We inherited a huge (and fat) old Clydesdale on our farm when I was about 8 years old... he too was a giant,. and even more so to an 8 year old! His name was,. of course,.. BudWieser.. and other than his girth,. he looked exactly like those in the commercials.. :)
He was also a great relaxed old sould that had no concerns at all about having little kids sitting on him :) Of course,. he had only one speed,. walk. ;)

Wow. I thought two Lab's and two Cats added up to a houseful of pets. You must have a BIG back yard! My Aunt used to breed Arabians. Horses are so great to be around.

Wow. Thats a BIG horse. Occasionally a team of them (from Carlton Breweries) can be seen around here done up in full polished harness etc. Unfortunately I haven't seen them since I got the digital !

Question: in the last picture of the first post, is that 'foggyness' in front of the horse a focus problem, a glare, a smudge on the lens, or is it the horse's breath? If it's his breath, that's pretty cool.
