Just a couple of sparrows from the North Island of New Zealand.
First picture is a male. EOS 300D + 75-300mm II @300mm. 1/800 f10.
Second is of a female. EOS 300D + 75-300mm II @300mm. 1/640 f10.

Great shots - how close where you. Sparrows in the UK always act like they are on speed!

Beautiful pictures! Your sparrows look very much like the sparrows here in the US. We call them 'English' or 'House' sparrows in the SW.

Damien, they were quite close actually...probably a metre or so. They we're much less flighty than the ones we have here in Australia too. Still quick, but you could get close to them.
Pawnee Dan, these are the same species...I think the early English settlers carried them everywhere :-) !
