Well my macro lens arrived last night, or I went to pick it up lol..
I found out fed ex had my lens on the truck a day early. Then they brought it back to the Station because it was a day early for delivery. Can you believe that.. So I got my behind in my car, cause I am going to get my dang lens, and drove down to FedEx. Well after them letting me pick it up I came home straped it on the camera, and took a shot.
It's the Tamron 180 macro 3.5

Here is a shot I took for my photo a day. I am thinking about doing 1 week of Macro, and 1 week on night photography, and the other 2 weeks I just make up stuff..

These are actually the bolts for my Adjustable Sway bar for my car. They are stainless steel.
The head is no bigger than my finger nail.
It is amazing how the OOF area can change when changing the focus due to the shallow DOF. I was bugging out when I was looking through my view finder.

lol. the lens hood is pretty deep.. Deeper than the 70-200 f4L hood. lol.
However, the actual front of the lens stops right where the hood begins. I was amazed at how close I could focus on the the bolts.
I was about 1 foot away. maybe even closer.
here is another image..

I am itching to do some flowers. I love flower, and plant photography.. not to mention bugs, and bees, and all those sorts of things.
I guess I am one of those guys, that loves every aspect of photography in one way or another.

haha... that's what I am talking about..
you know that I went to Fed Ex to get the package, and they wouldn't give it to me...
The reason was that my Drivers L address was in my upstate house, but I was having it shipped to my grandmothers house in the bronx. So they didn't want to give it to me ..
I had to go home, and get my damn check book that has my GM's address on it ...
They damn well better give me my lens then .. lol..
I don't have any plans for other lenses right now. I was thinking about the 17-40 L though, as the 18-55 is a nice lens, but the build quality is trash. I need good build quality.

Let me tell you, you're going to find yourself walking around your house, your yard, and everywhere looking for stuff to get close up shots of. I spent all morning and last night trying to focus on everything tiny, lol. And yes that lens hood is rather huge!

My gosh Reminisce , you are so right.
By the time I got home last night it was dark outside, so I couldn't really get anything out there. However when I was in the house, I was looking for anything.. anything I could get my grubby paws on to photograph .. lol. I was playing with the flash also, which seemed to help with the above images.

Bruce, don't forget the extremely shallow DOF when shooting macro, it can be just a few millimetres.

Nice lens, like Dante King, I have its smaller brother the 90mm. Which I really like,ok it does hunt a bit and nosier than some of my other lens. But is still a very good lens I wouldn't mind getting a it's big brother, but I will stick with what I have for the moment untill I can get better shots, still a lot of shots out of foucs as son as a press the shutter or when I breath in and out and the camera moves lol. Nice shots btw.

My god that is an enormous lens! You should stick it on your camera and walk around town with it, and see what kind of reactions you get ;)

People don't really notice the black lens, try walking around town with a white lens... then everyone looks at you, and wonders what the heck you are doing.
Thank you everyone for your comments, I really appreciate them. I am actually used to the weight to be honest. I use the 70-200 f4 a lot so the T is a bit heavier but not that much...
foxbat, you are so right, the DOF is crazy .. I couldn't believe it, when I was so close to the object, a hair of movement, and the whole focus point would move.
I am about to post a few more images in a second, I just took...
It's raining outside, I tried to stay out there, but my toes started to freeze. lol

Here is another image that I took today, I managed to get the person to stand still, but my manual focus skills need to sharpen up a bit.

Your next challenge is to get the entire eye in focus. Good luck! Macro can be hard, but it's so much fun :)
