i am a novice part time wildlife photographer. i set up my own website to sell prints, merchandise etc... thru smugmug. are there any tips or tricks that will help sell photos. i know getting my name out there will help and im dabbleing in google adwords. but no luck so far. does it take some time to get things going? also if anyone could check out my site and let me know what you think. my stuff may not be good enough to sell yet. thanks.

Depending on how specialized the photos are, you might get lucky and find a wildlife photo stock agency.

All of the different photo sales sites are wonderful resources when you start getting requests for prints and actually have a client base that knows where to look for your work.. and even then, it's hard to get constant sales. It's hard to start getting sales before nobody knows who you are.

If I were you, I'd be looking at a copy of the photographer's market to get a feel for the demand for your type of work, and go on from there. You could also start presenting your website to various publications, travel publications, tourism publications, etc.

I agree and would also like to mention that you need to make you shots different from everyone else's. You need to get people to say "WOW" The lighting and weather you take a picture in can have a lot to do with this.
There's a lot of competition in this area

Another thought would be for you to try selling at craft fairs. The prints on T shirts and sweatshirts (maybe with some word such as Florida or Everglades below the print) may sell along with note cards and framed prints.
