Finally after lurking around the macro realm I finally bought a used Sigma 105mm lens from a fellow forum member. I got it today and took some test shots.

I already owned a set of kenko tubes and a kenko 1.4x TC. Below are some test shots to give those not familiar with macro (like myself) what this lens can do five minutes after picking it up. It is a crude sample but I hope it helps those like myself that just don't really get it.

All shots are right out of the camera (40D) exp: 1/250 sec, f/8, fill flash dialed down -1 stop. All shots (except number 1) were taken at full barrel extension which equals true 1:1 magnification, manual focus.

1. normal scale. shot at a distance of 18" just to show scale

2. 105mm alone

3. with 25mm tube

4. with all 3 tubes stacked.

Thanks! That means a lot coming from you. I've been enjoying your work for months now.

How do I mount a nifty on the end? Is there some threaded adapter I can use? I don't want to use gaffer tape or some other strange getup.

Thanks for the shots and comparisons as afar as the mounting the nifty there is a reverse ring mount you can purchase online or at your camera store reversing ring (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=sort&A=search&Q=&sortDrop=Brand%3A+A+to+Z&bl=&atl=&pn=1&st=search&mnp=0.0&mxp=0.0&sv=reverse&bhs=t&shs=reverse&ac=&fi=all&pn=1&ci=3065&cmpsrch=&cltp=&clsgr=)

Cool. I was starting to think I'd never use the nifty again. I'll have to pick up a step down ring and dust off the 50 1.8

Looked into reversing rings and I still don't get it? How do I mount a nifty fifty with 52mm female threads backwards onto a sigma 105mm macro with 58mm female threads?

Don't I need a 52mm male by 58mm male ring?

Can someone help me with this? I looked into reversing rings and none seemed to fit the bill. Am I missing something? Help! (see one post up for my question).

that's exactly what you need...
i bought my 52-52 adaptor off of ebay...the DOF is tiny, and I find the use of the tubes, and TC give me much better results...but if you still want to play around with it...here's one on ebay that'd work for you
