So I live on a little golf course here in Ft. Worth, and for my wife's parent's anniversary I thought it would be nice to get some shots of the three sisters for them. I used my 20D with the 28-75 Tamron and 50mm prime for these with a 550EX and lumiquest bouncer. ISO100 in Av at varying apertures... any comments are welcome!

This one *I* like but some will notice that it's not centered. I didn't like it centered as it put Robin (on the bottom) in a weird area of the frame. For some reason part of the arm being cut off doesn't seem to bother me. Should it?

And this was just messing around inside in B&W mode.

Another weird profile shot. Just to see what would happen.

Complaints, suggestions, favorite recipes for various soups are appreciated!

Great shots, specially the first one... but the last one, the profile, has given me an idea.
Three profile shots, my wife and her two daughters (my step-daughters). The layout as in yours however rotate each of them through the center position. I'll hang the three photos in one frame.
Thanks for the great idea Adam.

Very nice looking family. The compostions are good, but I think the depth of field is too shallow on the first couple. By the way, I was looking at my stroboframe camera flip and I think that if the battery grip doesn't protrude to the left or out in the front, then it would work on mine, so if yours is like mine, it should work.

These are very nice photos. The last profile shot (foreground/background blur) I find very appealing aesthetically.
? :in the EXIF section on one of the photos you indicate 50mm (35mm equivalent 137mm) and a different number on another photo. I thought that with a 50mm prime and 1.6 Field of View Crop Factor, the 35mm equivalent would always be 80mm. What am I missing???

I really like number 5. They are all nice. Number 8 is very intriguing.

Thanks for the comments guys. I shot each at a shallow DOF and a deep DOF (and a few inbetween, like the 4.5.) I found some of the background too distracting at f11+. I don't usually shoot wide open unless I'm going for an effect like the last shot.
As far as the EXIF data goes... I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I used a 50mm prime and a 28-75 2.8 for the shots. I think all of these were shot with the 50 though... and yes it's a 1.6x factor.
Take care guys,
Adam

Thanks... but what happened to the flash too bright comment :) It might have been a tad bright. It kinda looks like they're floating in space, but we learn as we go along!

Well the first time I looked at it, I thought the flash may have been a bit bright compared to the background. But after I looked ta it, it wasn't really that bad. You could always fix it in photoshop though.

Just giving you a hard time... I edit my posts all the time :) I'm still trying to get this d@mned new 19" LCD screen calibrated, so I have no IDEA what these photos look like to you guys yet! The worst nightmare is that I'm running dual 19" LCDs but they're two different models (bought one a year ago, and just bought a fast new 8ms screen) so trying to color match the two together has proven to be a P.I.T.A!

Adam,
good work!
I like the non-centered picture (#2/8 ) and the bridge (#3/8 ) best.
How did they manage to sit down on a golf course in light trousers without getting stains?
Best regards,
Andy

Nice photos, nice job. I am shooting a large group (16 people) and plan on using these 2 lenses so this has given me a good perspective and some peace of mind. Thanks!

With a large group you'll probably end up with the 28mm unless you can get back a good distance. I did like the 50 though. I just have the little 1.8. Every time I go to get the 1.4 I find something I need more :) It's on the way in the next few months though. I found the Tamron to be softer at 2.8 than the 50 was at 1.8, but I doubt you'lll be shooting a group wide open anyways!
Thanks for the comments guys!

I am doing a lot of the photos outdoors (shade) in the mid-afternoon so the aperture will be cranked down to 10-12 at least which will sharpen up the photos. My 50mm is 1.4 and I won't need it anywhere near that open until evening. Thanks for the tips!

The first is my favourite but i would be tempted to crop it a little tighter, for me there is too much sky.
They are all real nice, i bet the ladies love them don't they?

The only one I didn't like was the "up the nose" shot. I try to avoid those....
Just my opinion, they aren't falttering.
