Below are a few images I took while shooting the Central Michigan vs. University of Toledo men's basketball game last week on January 20. It was my second event using my recently-acquired 70-200 f/2.8 (traded up from a f/4) and I think I'm starting to get used to having the extra stop (and of course the additional weight).

Nice shots and pretty good action. My only problem is the WB looks very cold to me.
Here's one I warmed up a bit.

Thanks for your comment... I have been struggling with setting/correcting the white balance since I started shooting indoors and agree they tend to be a little cooler than I'd like. Can I ask what you changed it to for your picture (I can't look at the EXIF data easily at the moment).

Thanks -- yes, ambient light only. They recently renovated Savage Hall (now known as Savage Arena) and upgraded the lighting as well.

Would these have been doable with the f4 IS

the action is great but as noted, WB is whack. Almost like you had it set to flash WB or something. I'd really recommend taking a gray card in with you and just using a custom WB, it'll save you tons of anxiety in the long run.

I shot my first game of the season with a 70-200 f/4L IS. The pictures are also available on flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nateut/sets/72157611497508796/detail/). While the lighting was good enough at Savage Arena, I can also tell you that the other NCAA arenas I've shot at would have been hurting at f/4, even with ISO1600.

Thanks for the comments... I think you're right, something was definitely not right with my white balance settings for these shots. I'm going to go back to the RAW images and make some adjustments and re-upload once they are done; they will have to wait until after I get my Akron @ UT photos from tonight processed and uploaded. Good suggestion on the grey card... that would be the way to go!

White Balance is way off. They could be fixed with two clicks in photoshop and you dont even have to use the RAW.

Yep; I've already started correcting them in aperture; will update once they are done, and I can post my shots from last night's Akron game.
