I got these cute pictures but they need something more and I just can't get it right. The second one I have no idea where to start since my eldest is out of focus. How can I improve or is it a lens issue? I only have the kit lens.

I am at work or I would edit the top one for you, But as the Bottom one goes, need to use a higher aperture to keep all of them in focus, But other wise cute kids and good pics, I will edit the top one in the morning if no one has done it yet

For the 2nd shot, what F/ value did you shoot?

Also, what type of focusing? (Based on the photo, it looks like AF focused on your son mostly)

Not a lot of time maybe 10 minutes between the two. The resolution is very low so hard to get great results but here is a quick attempt at making them better. The second one has the most issues so I tried a B&W to see if it would help some.

I can't help you out with the focus because that has something to do with aperture (or something?) and that is beyond me still... however I think that you should try to put them in front of a solid wall just to make the background less busy so you can focus on your gorgeous kids!

Thank you everyone. It was shot on auto and was more of a testing picture. I do plan on getting them outside in Natural light as soon as the snow dissapears for real shots. I "still" haven't found the time to do more then read the first section in understanding exposure. I wonder why? And Yes i d have cute kids LOL.

Yes good idea, although the snow might be a fun shoot!
You've got quite a brood there... I only have 2 which I've got the hang of but 5 seems scary to me. Kudos to you!

what you need is a wall or back drop (white/black sheet or wall) the BG is busy and that means more to look at...and the more there is to look at the less your eye is drawn to the actual thing you are photographing (your wonderful kids).

keep shooting!!

Wow. I know it's not premo editing, but putting them in a less distracting environment does wonders for the picture. I need a backdrop. :p
