I shoot a lot of things but unfortunately, hockey isn't amongst them. Played the game as a keeper from age 7-35 before packing it in (oddly, backchecking must not be allowed in men's league since I'd take 60 shots/game easy). Anyway, I took what I learned here and had at it. All shot ambient, some from the team box, some TTG. Most were with the 70-200 at 1/500s/2.8/1600. The white unis coupled with the ice gave my AF fits at points but all in all, I am pleased as was the organization (which is really what counts, right?). Without further words...feel free to rip if you want.

Nice shots, #3 stands out for me a a lot, I'm suprised you caught these images so well at 1/500th, My experience when shooting hockey I tend to always stay at 1/640th to capture the shot without any blur.

nice sharp shots. The WB is perfect in my opinion.

nice shots
I like how the puck and player are in most shots

thanks guys, appreciate that. Simon, I usually look for face, puck (ball), action, and emotion. If I get 3 or those and its sharp and well exposed, its a keeper, if its less, then at least #1 and #2 have to be there or I'm probably deleting in camera unless its something like the thrid image where I am clearly not shooting action.
Thanks again.

Great job Scott ! Face in all, puck in most, the trifecta of face-puck-net in the last one !
The white is right.
Did you apply sharpening? And if so, how much? Minor nit-pic that it may have washed some detail as in shot 5, the 19 jersey.
Also do you tweak the shadows? Cuz if you have, they're perfect - i.e., shot 7.
Good to hear that the customer liked it -( so you're a winner ....somebody on these boards has that in his sig line .)
On the back checking.....we always rip our keepers that they paid so much for their gear that we better let them get their money's worth in blocking those shots.

DarcyD, thanks very much. Coming from one of our resident hockey gurus, it means alot. Sharpening wise, I have a kinda weird routine in an attempt to retain contrast and not overdo it although sometimes I still don't nail it down. I use no sharpening in ACR but in PS do a soft light layer w/ a high pass filter and change opacity to suit. High pass at 3.5. Then I add a layer and selectively apply USM at 125/.5/5, flatten, then a final soft light layer at maybe 10% or less to pull back some color and contrast. TMI? I bet what you see in the detail is where I got a little too aggressive with the Ninja,
I did tweak some shadows but only in some pics and even then, selectively and only to a small degree. Given the compliment, I should just say what a great PS'r I am and take credit but I didn't do much, just a little fill in ACR.
Thanks for making sense out of the backchecking issue. I never knew why that was and now I do. And to think of me yelling at my defensemen all those years...I gotta make some phone calls and apologize ala My Names Earl.
