Well I downloaded the newest 2.4 file plugin and installed it and yet I can get no raw files at all.I tried through the canon software and through Photoshop, but nothing. I did reset the camera to normal and not ptp.I can see the files through the canon viewer but can't save the files there at all. I spent 5 hours last night and all I got was bloodshot eyes and very frustrated. This morning i tried the same exact setup on my computer at work and I get the same thing.Help, whats wrong?

Did you read the manual? I can't tell whether your trying to get the files to your computer or trying to open files you already transferred. Either one is not that difficult. I would recommend a card reader for file transfers. Much easier to deal with. As far as the plugin, where did you install it? It belongs in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Plug-Ins\File Formats. Once there you should be able to open in PS.

Trying to just get the RAW files to my computer, not much of a manual per se but I read what I have.basically I have RAW files in my camera and nothing seems to know there are any.If I open Photoshop and go to my 20D theres a folder there but when I try to open it Photoshop tells me its empty.

Bsmooth - It would be helpful if you could explain, step by step, the process you are using; i.e. what mode are you shooting in, how do you transfer the files to your computer, how you try to open the images, etc.
P.S. - Instead of starting a new thread, you should probably post to the thread you had already started so the folks that had responded in the first thread can see that you've responded back.

Are you using a card reader to transfer the images or are you trying to access the files with the camera directly connected to the computer via USB?

So your problem is getting the RAW files from the camera onto your computer.
Adobe Camera Raw is not going to help you with that. Camera Raw is not a program to transfer files from your camera to your computer. It's a plug-in for Photoshop that allows you to open RAW files (CRW, CR2, or any other format that it supports) directly in Photoshop.
Buy a CF card reader and connect it to your computer. Take the CF card out of your camera and put it in the card reader. Open Windows Explorer, browse to the card reader and copy the contents to a directory on your harddisk. You'll find some directories on the CF card that contain CR2 files. The CR2 files are RAW files from your camera.
After copying them to your harddisk, start Photoshop and use File / Open or the file browser, go to the directory on your harddisk that contains the CR2 files. You'll see the files and you'll be able to open them.
Ofcourse you have to have Camera Raw 2.4 installed to be able to open the files in Photoshop, but you already did that.

After connecting according to the software directions, the files shoul dbe viewable in the file viewer program. With in that program, you can dowload to your HDD. Much easier to use a card reader as mentioned. This will also save battery life on the camera.

Ok I figured it out and I think Canon needs to rewrite there software instructions. It states to download in RAW you should switch to normal mode in communications ,which I did last night.Doesn't work at all that way, just not able to download at all.Well through a lot of research and forum searching I found out the communication mode needs to be set to PTP.After I reset it,I can now download RAW images directly in Photoshop CS.The browser still doesn't work,so you can't see thumbnails of the images but at least I can see them after I click on each picture symbol. I'm a stickler for reading instructions and these just seem wrong to me.I've been to some forums where I was blankly told you COULD NOT open a RAW image in Photoshop CS. Glad i found out you can although its not the best way probably(Card reader and thumbnails would be nice).
I now see why so many people are having problems with this.pretty bad when Canon instructions specify one way and in reality It works another way.
Hope this helps a few people ,because to me it was pretty confusing.Oh by the way RAW images look like they'll be a blast to work on!
