This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #157".

This is all about having, fun so have at it!!!

I was trying my hand at some still life using an old shoe shine box and it's contents. I just shot this tonight and would love to everyone take on this too.

This game will end on Sunday Feb 1st at 9:00pm EST!

tried some soft focus effects with little success:

Here is my take:
Added to canvas on left side and cropped right side to make the composition fit the rule of thirds.
Desaturated picture then added color back to brushes and rags.
Nik Coloreffex/Darken lighten filter-brought out a few highlights on the brushes. Darkened box in background.
Shoeshine box focus is soft. I used that to my advantage...used blur tool to soften it even more giving the image a bit of bokeh.
Finished image of with slight glamour glow filter.
Added frame and resized.

Here's what I came up with...

- WB and Clarity adjustment in ACR
- "Dirt Bag" layer at 25% opacity, Multiply blend mode
- Hollywood Highlights action layer at 50% opacity
- Vintage look action layer at 30%
- A little CEP Bleach Bypass on a couple of areas, like the brush handle
- crop and frame

Another last minute edit...
Curves & Saturation adjustment layers
Filter - Stylize - Diffuse to soften a bit
Duplicate background and did gaussian blur with fade from top to bottom to slightly blur parts
Texturizer with canvas to go for painting type feel
Darken outside edges with vignette effect to draw attention to box

A little to bright for me, but I like the soft focus effect.

I love what you did. The bokeh effect works, it really brings the other
items out and adds a nice pop.

Nice clean edit

I like your edit, the canvas texture gives it an old somewhat out of focus look.
I think it would look better in b\w though?

I'm giving this one to Dilorenzo, as a matter of fact I used your
edit instructions and made this edit:

I tried a couple edits and each time I found myself trying to shink the image and paste into an urban snapshot. So, I decided to just sit this one out. Good job all!

Nice job everyone. I like your "final" edit, frenchfx. I thought about b/w but tried something different. It was a quick experiment on my part.
Based on what I'm seeing in instructions on a lot of these edits, I need to get some more plugins for PS!
