It has absolutely nothing to do with who does it first. It's who does it best.

I think both dpreview and FM have a different mindset of folks. I belong to both and FM is probably the closest community to POTN. POTN is the best, of course. ;) But it will be interesting to watch if those guys can get their acts together and pull something like this off. For us it is pretty easy.

In fairness to the other forums, they might not be lucky enough to have members like Ian, Sheldon, and Phil who are willing to handle such a big job.

If you read the thread in the other forum, you'll see a lot of enthusiasm for the the idea, but precious few people volunteering to follow through with it.

We really are blessed to have some of the people we do.

Actually I saw that post on the FM forums. Before that I had never heard of these forums. I decided to sign up here and order one.

I've been looking around here and have been liking what I see. I think I may stick around for awhile. ;)

So another plus to offering a deal like this is that you get more traffic and possibly more members coming to your forums.

Couldn't agree more.

But I really think it is amazing how different the forums are because there are a lot of users that are on more than one forum.

I guess sometimes the attitude starts at the top and flows from there. Pekka has always had a very even-handed, but no-nonsense approach to setting and policing the limits of behavior by our members. Ultimately he, and he alone, sets the standards of conduct for the forum, and we've all been served very well by them.
