View Full Version : Epson printers - bidirectional wireless print servers - any solution?

I want to config an Epson printer on a wireless print server. I've searched here and elsewhere, but have not really found a good solution. I don't want to work without the printer ink levels, etc. Print speed is not as much an issue to me as everything being able to chat back and forth.
Any good solutions to this?

I went through the same thing and only found one 'ok' solution. The problem isn't with the print servers, it's the software that Epson puts out. It doesn't pay any attention to network ports to send back data. The same thing is true of most non-network printers. I have found a solution, but it isn't a cheap one (which negates any benefit). I have true print servers at work and hooked a BJ directly to the server itself and it does pass information, but not across routers. It is a function of the server, not the drivers. At home I just learned to deal with it.

Bummer. So apparently this means that my backup solution of hooking the printer to a laptop on a wireless net won't work either because even tho it will print, it won't send ink monitor info back thru the router to the sending desktop. Double bummer.
So what we're saying here is the in this day and age when everything from an outhouse to a skyscraper is on a wireless net, Epson can't seem to write a driver to allow their printers to fully function on them.

The drivers necessary for TCP/IP or netBIOS communication are out there but they are typically only available for printers that are 'net' aware. That makes them a little more expensive.
