I'm an in-house art director for for a small high-end audio electronics conglomerate, and I'm drafting a proposal for a small digital studio for product photography. My designers and I have a modest amount of experience with digital photography. We shoot a lot of black and chrome products for reproduction in product literature and packaging artwork, as well as tradeshow graphics. most images will be reproduced at around 24" wide, although occasionally we get requests for resizes up to 6 feet wide (!).
So far we have selected the Canon EOS 20D as our weapon of choice as far as the camera, but we're at a loss regarding proper lighting, backdrops, and other essential accessories. I have to try and shave the equipment budget under $5000 to get it approved.
I need to know what kind of lighting scenarios work best with digital, and where to find a good price for such a package.
Any recommendations from this distinguished forum?
