$250...LEDs.... I don't know about that. Personally, I'd much rather save another couple hundred and get a real ringlight like http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=194480&is=USA

More controls, ETTL!, etc...

That looks great ! The fact that it's got LEDs is (to me) even more exciting because they are not power hungry. I dont know how the price compares with other ring lights though. ($250)

The other ring lights are 450 dollars, and up.

I am really contemplating this. I may actually try one out in a few weeks, and see how it works. I have rechargeable AA's so that is no issue. However, right now money will be, especially after I just made a big purchase.

This is the kind of thing that you can sell to doctors and other non-camera professionals who have the money to drop on something like this, since it is a business expense. I doubt any Canon enthusiast would buy this over a real ring light with E-TTL support and all. :)

Note that color rendition might not be optimal with LED lighting. If this matters depends on your application.
I don't know what the spectral emission curve of these leds looks like. Most 'white' LEDs don't have a nice even spectrum with usually some peaks in the blue and yellow range.

My actual intent is for bug/flower/anything macro photography.

Bah.. maybe I will just trying to rig my flash to do the job for me with the off camera cord for now.
