Please recommend a digital Canon for a pre-teen age 12?

He's very mature (knows how to transfer images from my Canon 300D into my Mac). Loves photography in general, The New York Times, Photography exhibits and B&W photos.

id get him started with something with a little point n shoot, but at the same time get him a feel for manual control. any of the canon A series would do just fine.
