mine doesn't look as good as hers did. i think it was too sunny out and with all the snow we have the kitchen was sooo bright i got a reflection on the paper. and i can't decide if it is too busy. but i like how it matched his tie.
they are two seperate pictures. not sure how i got them placed so close together.

Yeah, the wrapping paper is a bit busy...and wrinkled. Maybe you could switch it to solid white? Your little boy is adorable....love the tie, but I think would be better w/a simpler background.

You can also try wallpaper, less likely to wrinkle, can come in matte surfaces, and various designs. can be cheap if you buy discounted patterns.

I couldnt use direct natural light when i did this because of the reflection. I had to have the natural light to the side, and I filled the other side in with my Flash bounced. But Great attempt!! I like the first one. The second one , because you have verticle stripes, you HAVE to watch your horizon. :)

this was my second attempt. the first time the paper looked better but the baby was blurry in almost every shot he wouldn't sit still and kept pulling the tie off. i was buy myself so it was very annoying to get up every 2 seconds to put it back on.haha. the second time the he was much more cooperative but the paper...well you see it. i had a white sheet ready to throw up but his patience only lasted so long. i will have to try again with the sheet i took some of my friends daughter with the white sheet and they looked so ctue. i was just afriad i would lose him with the white shirt on and white chair.

If you were to move the top of the paper slighty forward toward the subject the reflection wouldn't be visible. It would reflect the light toward the floor instead of to the camera. But perspective of the design may be off.

I tried the wrapping paper thing too and it failed horribly... I agree on the fabric.
This is a simple black sheet:
