Hi !
I'm a very new to Digital SLRs. I bought a new Digital Rebel XT through internet. My camera is making a click noice (as if some metal part is loose somewhere inside the camera) whenever I move my camera (during normal handling) - even when the power is off and no lense attached. Is this normal ? Is it something like a motion detection or something ?

Thanks for your inputs,
- Karun

It is a small "gyroscope-thingy" that tell the camera if You are shooting portrait or landscape.

And welcome to the forum.

Don't know whether it is the same as the DReb but that has a catch for the pop-up flash that flops around a bit. Had me nervous when I bought one for a friend in the UK until I found out what it was. Just a small piece in the hinge mechanism.

Mine does that too. Something in the pop-flash mechanism. Nothing to worry about. ;)

Just noticed, this is your first post. Welcome to the forum. Hope you stick around. Just be careful and lock away your wallet or give it to your wife. If you stick around here too long, you'll be broke, naked, sticky, and balled up in a card board box somewhere clutching your camera body and your bag filled with L lenses and a Giotto rocket blower. :p

Welcome to the forums. I had a similar problem with my camera before I realised it was part of the pop-up flash.

Yep... I hear this same noise. No issue.

Do people not read their manuals any more? There's been a rash of posts in the last few days with simple questions that are covered in the manual.

it's the orientation sensor.

When you change the camera's orientation between horizontal and vertical, the camera orientation sensor will make a small sound. This is not a defect.
