Please can someone help !! I have the Canon S40 and 8 out of 10 photos come out - out of focus. I did try the A40 and did not have this problem. Can someone please tell me if this is just a problem with this particular model? or does this always happen with Canon??

I take it you were using the autofocus, and over the past month or so I've seen a lot of people complaining about inaccurate focusing on the canon s30/40. Is it possible that the photos are blurred and not out of focus? It might help if you'd say what conditions were and what setting you used.
In my experience with my S30, when i press the shutter halfway and see the green box on the lcd, the pictures turn out fine. I hope you can resolve the problem, because you're probably anxious to get out and take some sharp photos with your new 4mp camera!

Most people just press the shutter button full without checking the focus first. Half press it, and wait if it can get good focus (indicated by green box) or not (yellow box+ yellow LED blinking). Very useful when taking photo in dark or semi dark area.

I own an A40 and would really like to know what you did to make your photos come out in sharp focus. I have tried the two focusing systems, the focus lock and put the camera on a tripod but they still seem very soft. My other question is why does the camera shake graphic disappear when the flash is turned on again? I can't see the connection between them?
