This is one of my favourite local places to visit. It is an 'island' connected to the mainland coast of Southern England by a narrow pebble beach called Chesil Beach. It is famous for its fine stone - Portland Stone. This fine stone was used to build such magnificent monuments as St Paul's Cathedral and Tower Bridge in London.

You can see an old disused crane in the distance, it is one of many, used to lower blocks of quarried stone onto barges for their onward journey by sea.

This is called 'pulpit rock' for obvious reasons.

Both taken with Canon G5.

Both are nice shots. I like the perspective you chose. The foreground rocks lead one's eye into the main part of the scene.

Great shots, the rocks on the ground look really good. I agree with Sparker they lead you to the main part.

Really nice shots. I love Portland Bill.

Me and missus stayed in the Old Higher Lighthouse for a week a few years back, loved every minute of it.

Shot below is very similar to your first one.

Cheers

Yes it is of the same part of the coast, just nearer. I have tried to take shots like this, with the waves crashing against the rocks but the Canon G5 is not one of the fastest cameras, and I never seem to anticipate the right moment. Nice shot well done.
