Here's some before and after pictures of some portraits I took.
1 & 2 I took yesterday of my daugther laying on the couch watching TV. Just playing around with the effects on my photo program (removed some blemishes mostly, added the tint, the color of her eyes and edge effect), I thought it turned out pretty nice myself. I might want to add that I haven't cropped the photo, I wanted a close up. Anything I could improve?

And 3 & 4 are of my brother in law and his fiance that I took about 2 weeks ago. These have also been edited, I removed some blemishes (which aren't really noticable in the little version I have here, but very noticable on the full size picture), removed that cross necklace as it looked like my BIL had a cross earring from the way it was hanging, I also focus and added light to her engagement ring as it was kind of blah in the original picture. Removed some shadowing in the lower right hand corner, tinted and put the edging on. I wanted something that kind of brought the picture into focus but I'm not sure this was the right edging, I'm gonna have to search for another one. Overall I liked it, and so did they as I had it enlarged to 8x10 for their photo mat they're gonna have at the wedding for people to sign (sort of like a guest book type thing).
Anything I could have improved?

Pictures removed: If you wish to see them, please PM me for a link.

In the second set, removing the necklace made the picture easier to look at. It kept making me think the cross was hanging from his ear.

The first set, the subject is adorable.

Yeah I agree with the necklace, I didn't notice it when I took the photo since I was so worried about centering and snapping the picture before they had to take off. I'm so happy I got a good software that can actually crop that stuff out! =o)

Thanks, she loves the camera...I got her well trained - she sees a camera she'll say "CHEESE". ;o)

1st set: I like the way you made it b&w and then brought the blue eyes back into the picture.

2nd Set: Initially I thought the guy was wearing an earring and I think the photo looks much with it removed and in B&w as well especially as it distracts slightly from the hard shadows in the colour version.

Thanks for the comments.
I almost think I like the first two set of pictures (of my girl) in Sepia tones after I messed around with it some more. But I got the overall effect I wanted, the focus on her eyes.

And I agree, the necklace WAS distracting, it really looked like an earring up until you zoomed in on the picture and saw a close up.

Nice Sue!!! I like the way you edited them too. But I agree with Dante.... invest $75 and buy yourself the 50mm/1.8 lens... it is the perfect portrait lens for the money.

Do you mean they're too grey? I kind of thought that was the purpose of tinting it to B&W/Grey tones. I don't have PS so what can you suggest I do with it differently, what to look for to change the "levels"?

Thanks!

Well a new lens will be on my list this year, I think I'm gonna have to wait a little tho, we just spent our money getting the camera and last month I used our extra cash to get the external flash. Hubby will kill me if I spend anymore on equiptment right now! :p Thanks for the tip tho, its on my list!!!
THanks btw.

Thanks Maureen. I'm trying to learn. I've always been partial to the B&W photos, think it brings out the personality in people. And like I told Dante, a new lens is on my list, actually the last piece of equiptment I'm gonna invest in aside from maybe a new microdrive or two. I just thought a external flash was needed more at the moment. But its on my list to buy next. Thanks!
