How do I create panoramic shots with invisible seams?

I just got an S230 and have been playing with stitching panoramic shots. Using the camera's stitch mode, and then stitching the photos with the software that came with the camera, mosttimes creates an image with visible seams. Other times the image comes out perfect.
What can I do to ensure the seams will not be visible?

Make sure your exposure is locked. If you use the function built into a Canon camera, it automatically locks it for you, unless you accidentally reset the exposure to take a new sequence of shots. Also a tripod will allow perfect stitching. These will help improve your stitches, but more than anything else you want to pay attention to how you capture each picture.

Obviously you have to change the orientation of the camera to capture the next shot in a sequence. Instead of moving the camera as shown on the left, only rotate it as indicated on the right. Hope this helps.

Tripod will help you in maintaining position as well.

Dave? How do you paste the picture into the forum. I've tried to directly copy and paste it, but not succesful.

All you have to do is follow the instructions here http://photography-on-the.net/forum/help.php

In addition to using stitch mode and a tripod, make sure to overlap about 1/4 to 1/3 of the frame between photos. Try to have something distinctive in each overlapping section to make it easy for the software to match it up, such as a pole, tree, etc.

Thanks for the tips I will try it with a tripod.

One more question, when I take pano's in manual mode, should I lock the focus along with the exposure? Is the focus locked in auto stitch mode?

bigdave; your orientation picture is confusing to me...you have two arrows with indicators both ways (back and forth)...can you clarify...the image on the left you suggest NOT to do I can understand the image...but it looks like you want me to tilt the camera up and down with those arrows...how does up and down capture a panorama which is traditionally left ot right?

Sorry if it was unclear, but the arrows suggest that you rotate the camera clockwise and counter clockwise (yaw) with as little pitch as possible. My diagram was intended to be a top down view. Does that help?
