Has anyone on the forum used the new i9900 photo printer? I am considering upgrading my existing i960 to i9900...Thanks.

We did the same thing a few months back . . . we just love the color and it's setup was a snap. We gave the old one to the kids, I can't even use it as a backup once you see the color off of the new one.

Best of luck with you new printer.

I noticed that its price has been reduced this week (from $500 last week to $400 now)...is there a new printer on the horizon? Should I consider waiting for the next one?

I think it was CDS that noted there was a new printer in the works. There always is a new printer in the works . . .

I had and just sold the S9000, which also printed 13x19 prints with amazing speed. While I considered the I9900, I felt the Epson was a better choice. While it does cost more, the archival inks I feel are better and less sensitive to fade over the long run.

I've seen prints on both (I got the Stylus Pro 4000) and I believe Epson is better.

Also, be aware that the individual ink cartridges cost approx 11-12 dollars and run out very quickly when printing large photos.

In this way, the Stylus Pro 4000 will pay for itself as the ink cartridges are huge. I have it now for a few months and have done a lot of printing, including a number of 16x20 prints, many 17x11 and have yet to change a cartridge. And I'm only using the 110 ml size. It takes 220 ml size also.

Just a thought.

I have the i960 and think it's amazing. And this i9900 is better, you say? Great...something else to add to my list to spend my hard earned $ on.

MDJACk, wow, thats one nice printer!
Ack...now Im gonna have to get a printer...I have sorta not put that into my budget for buying my setup...
I love that printer though! How much stuff do you print off that? And do you have an idea what the cost per page is?

hmm...thats actually pretty cheap when you compare it to the cost of lenses...you can get the epson 4000 ($1350 us) for the cost of a good L lens...
I wonder which is worth more? A good L lens, or a great printer to print your other lens shots on...lol

I've never figured the cost per page as photography, at least so far, is a hobby. I don't make any money from it. Not yet anyway. My joy is in giving pictures away to high school athletes after attending their events.

As far as the price you quote, I don't know where you got that from. B&H sells it for $1795 and I've never seen it for less.

Thats the normal edition...there is also the professional edition..
What are the differences between the 2 editions anyways?

I have the i9900 and and Epson 1270. The 1270 is looking for a new home:)The i9900 out of the box is great. I would think that a new model will hit the market this year which will use new archival ink .

I bought a i9900 about 5 months ago and it's the best printer I've ever owned for making photo prints. Fast and accurate. The ink can be had for less than $10 if you look. For personal use I really don't worry about the archival issue. If the picture fades after ten years I can always print a new one. Assuminhg I don't delete or lose the file. Probably on a newer, higher quality printer.

I absolutely adore mine as well, and was shocked when I recently went to purchase one for my office......theyre discontinued already.........:( ......now I dont know WHAT to get.......anyone with thoughts on anty of the new printers out there? My budget at work is a measly $200 for one, and it has to be able to print 4 X 6. Are the Epson Picture Mates any good? Got good reviews in Consumer Reports....

You'll be amazed at the color and sharpness. Got mine at Adorama. Sure beats clogged heads that I used to have with Epson. Prints 13 x 19's great.

$434 at Adorama.com

That's the edition I have. When I got it from B&H, it was 1749 with no rebate.

The difference between this and the pro model is merely an internal ethernet card which enables sharing the printer.

Guy/Gal the i9900 is a great and fast printer for printing photo, do not try to print word documents! It will kill you.... the speed to print B&W words on a 8.5 X 11 paper takes more then 1 minute a page.

I found out the hard way. I printed a 4 pages word document, and it took forever! I had no option since its my only printer and I needed to print the document.

But its a great photo printing printer! I will only use it for photo printing from now on... :p and get a really cheap B&W printer for words and other documents.
