Ok a local design cafe is having an exbition this april and I was asked to hang some photographs.
Anyone have any pointers,, Most haven't been printed yet so sugestions on sizes and matting etc would be great. I also have access to a epson 1000 (42" roll fed printer) to print some canvas and oversizes
Please help me brainstorm ratio of sizes , matting framing etc

LOL! Hijack. Yer funny...I don't like your avatar. I have a right to that opinion. Am I asking you to remove it? Not at all.
Anyway, for a display like that you'd want to go all out to display your work. No holds barred. Now it when the artist in you really takes over. As to matting/framing there's no way to develop any suggestions on that without being privy to the photos.

Sometimes not all is said because it is off topic at the moment. Now that your avatar is the topic I can say that it would be nice if you would find something less violent. :)

I don't know, beating on a fax machine isn't so violent. I loved that movie, every time I see his avatar I laugh all over again. ;)

First thing first, pick a bunch of photos that have some sort of theme to it. After that, see how big you can increase the size of the image before they get too soft.
One other idea that might be fun...don't know if it is "do-able", but after choosing the images, how about putting them together mural style and then print out long prints of combined images.

Not knowing your theme, it is hard to advise.
Suggestion, if I had this opportunity, would be to provide a portfolio stye of setup. An opportunity to display your range of work.
Presentation would match each photo. Differnet canvases for different shots. There are many quality and types of papers available today for standard inkjet. Colour theme of matting and framing should not pull the viewer away from the photo, and should compliment. The photo is the object, and sometimes a huge frame can be used to pull a viewers attention to it, but usually detracts attention.
If this is an ART thing, there is no reason to not have some fun with this.
If you can please yourself wit hthe finished product, you will please others.
Good luck.
ps: Avatar? I use an owl currently on my avatar, doesn't mean I am wise.

Also, anyone been to a photographers showing? do they tend to stay witht the standards, or play with cropping? i.e. 8x12 8x10 5x7 or branch out with off dimentions?
Thanks again!

ok after getting some things to geather.. I am feeling that frames are making my work look "Cheap" maybee because i am not mating the stuff, but it ends up looking like a cheap poster
Anyone ever use Box Frames.. think it would work to do 100% those

Also, anyone been to a photographers showing? do they tend to stay witht the standards, or play with cropping? There's no right or wrong answer. It depends on the best crop for the individual pic, and the photographer.
I am feeling that frames are making my work look "Cheap" maybee because i am not mating the stuff, Many art supplies stores will cut a mat for just a few dollars & give a more professional presentation. It will separate a print from the environment (someones crappy wallpaper) and turn a cheap 8X10 print (cost to you) into a more impressive 14X18 wallhanging. Which means that you can charge more for it. ;-)

Box frames tend to really reduce the image and make it look less impressive. I have a combination of pics in floating frames and normal frames with matts... Tried to have just a few different frame styles to make it flow a little better. Guess I am getting ready to jump in with my own custom framing too so I don't have to pay to stick my square photo in a rectangular frame. Stick with a couple different sizes and don't go crazy with odd sizes... I made that mistake and have some sitting at home until I come up with some custom frames to fit them. My personal taste is that the frame/matt should pick up the theme/color/style of the photo.
