I am looking into buying my first digital camera, & have decided on the Canon PowerShot SI 1S. Alot of digital camera reviews on different sites seem to point to most users not liking the kit lense cap. Can a better one be ordered, you would think canon would have a good protective easy to put on & remove lense cap with any new camera it sells. Some of the reviews indicated it can be very hard to remove & is very cheaply made. Any current owners have any views on the lense cap.

I'm new to photography, and got my S1 about three weeks ago. The lens cap is somewhat of a pain, as mine fits loosely - I've attached it to the neckstrap so it doesn't get lost. I generally don't use it, because I've decked the camera out with the adapter and hood, or the adapter and a UV filter with the teleconverter - the teleconverter has a nice cover with it.When not around my neck, the whole assembly fits into a camcorder bag I bought some time ago, and that's what I use to transport the camera when not in use.
Don't know if this answers your question, exactly, but it works for me.

My dad has an S1 IS and I bought one for my work.
My initial impression of the lens cap was, "This is cheap and will never stay on." But it does. Still tie it to the strap so you don't lose it.
This probably isn't "up to snuff", but I just turn the camera on with the lens cap in place. As the lens extends, it lifts the cap off the body; it stays on the lens, but is now very loose and easy to remove.
My particular annoyance with the camera...The viewfinder is an color LCD unit. It has the advantage of accurately showing what you will be shooting. However, it is not clear and clean like looking through a glass viewfinder.

Hey there!! I dont have trouble with the cap..... make sure when you attacth it to the strap and leave slack so you dont pull the cap when it's pick it up by the strap. I think people are attaching the cap too high up the strap.
Enjoy the camera...I love mine.

Get a lens tube adaptor - the stock cap worked for me, but if you get the aluminum adaptor (aftermarket and matches the body color- I believe the stock unit is black plastic) It gives the S1 a real SLR look and allows for a 52mm filter and "real" lens cap to be used! Even though I have a 10D now - still use my S1 about 50% of the time.
Good luck!
