I have a nice size piece of black debris on that focus point plate as well and I'm sure it's behind it because blowing with a blower doesn't dislodge it. :\
How gentle is that thing anyways? Can it be touched by a soft brush?

Are you talking about the af point focus screen thats up inside the camera on the ceiling above the mirror? If so, I learned that as long as you use a q-tip that is made for camera cleaning then you can brush it from one side down toword the mirror. Then after you get the debris loose use a Rocket blower to get the particles out. Make sure you face the camera opening down while you use the blower. I have done this many times and it always works for me. Just make sure that you use lint free type tips that are made for optics. If you use standard q-tips you will be in a world of hurt. Make sure only go in one direction. Start from the top down, and dont brush back and forth. I learned this as a quick easy way to do it from a guy who works at a camera store in my town.

Would it be possible to get a spec on the INSIDE part of this screen? So that it cannot be wiped off? It's a super annoying spec. ARrrggg! It's so very annoying when shooting something and you have this horrible spot attracting your attention. I made a quick picture in PS.
So, can you use a soft brush on this instead of the qtip?

yeah, that's the focus plate on the inside of the camera locating on the top ceiling part, and my problem is the same as Jack, it's on the other side of the plate, not the part you can touch, that's why I ask if there is anyway to take that plate out and clean it.....

It might be easier for some of us to help you if you called 'things' by their correct names!
I presume that you mean that you have dust on or behind the focusing screen?
If the dust is on the screen then a soft brush and/or a blower will clear it.
If the dust is behind the screen, ie. between the screen and the pentaprism then you cannot easilly remove the sceen on a non -1series body and the cure is only to have the body professionally serviced.

I agree with PaulB. If the dirt bothers you that much, and it's someplace not easy to get to, get the camera professionally cleaned. Cameras are way too complex for the average user to take apart and clean themselves.
Hopefully your pesky spec is someplace easily accessible.

Hello,
In my 10D I had a piece of crud stuck on the inside of the mirror box/focusing screen, and I just took it out an wiped it with a lens tissue....no problem.
There was a little metal frame holding the screen in the correct position, I poped it out with a small screwdriver without problems, nor damage. IT WAS SUPER EASY...so don't be afraid of doing it.
The screen is made of plastic....nothing special really.
hope it helps.
