Well this is my first time posting pictures on here so hopefully they're up to par with the folks on here. This is my friend's new baby Jayden.. I believe he's 3 weeks old in this picture and spends all day sleeping. Never realized how hard it is to shoot people before. Anyway, all pictures were taken with a D60, Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, and Canon 420EX light bounced off the ceiling. Please critique and help me take better pictures of this baby! Enjoy!

Hello.......having spent the last year taking pictures of my new daughter a few suggestions come to mind. 1) try and set the focus point on the eyes of the subject. I noticed that the persons shirt is nice and sharp and the baby's face is soft. The camera has focused on the high-contrast letters of the shirt and not the baby. 2) there seems to be a greenish colour cast to both photos(especially the 2nd). Try shooting in RAW mode where you can easily fix the problem later. Hope this helps a bit........keep shooting and enjoy watching the little guy grow up real fast!! Oh yeah, soon you'll be wanting a faster focusing camera to try and keep the little guy in focus when he is all over the place!!!:D

I don't have any really good advice. I did not have a digital when my lil guy was that small but have been taking pics for a friend. Get all the curled up, bummy up shots now while the baby is still fairly still. I waited to do some re-takes here and now at about 9 weeks, baby is so squirmy those newborn shots are impossible. I got some beautiful shots by doing most on a table very close to a window. All natural light. Most looked best in B&W. Hid a lot of the newborn skin problems.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Schmoelzel - thanks for the advice. Next time the baby's awake I'll try and focus more on the eyes. I have the nifty fifty and the 85mm f/1.8 coming soon so i hope to use one or the other next time.

2 great lenses, you will love em. yeah i second the natural light idea. also, make sure you get some toes and fingers shots (maybe with the parents hands). also try some shots on a plain white sheet placed over a down comforter, with the baby's clothes off. you will love the results. watch out with that nifty fifty, the dof on it is quite shallow at 1.8 but when you get a good shot, it will be a keeper. good luck.:D
