Precious Feet

I was shooting a friends kids over the weekend, one is 2 and the other 8 months old. We decided to try a feet shot and those are never easy... at least not for me.

The 4x6 aspect ratio provided a better crop, however they wanted an 8x10, so that is the aspect ratio I am posting.

What do you think?

I was really hoping to get some feed back on what should have been done differently, etc. Feet pictures are tough.

Cute pose, however the front most foot is not in focus. Probably backing up a bit would have given you more depth of field and you could have cropped in later. The color is a personal preferance I know, but I think I would have prefered colored or possibly black & white. Could you post a colored version?
I'm far from an expert so perhaps some of the others can give you better advice.

There are a couple of things that can be improved.
1. Lighting: I find the image very flat, esp in sepia. may consider converting to b&w and boosting contrast.
2.the image can be sharper with greater dof.
3. subject separation. I know I just told you to stop down, but there is no separation from background, and I think this is worsened by you black and white conversion. this would work well in color with a black background (how these images are often done, and would be nice if noone was wearing long pants.

Like the shot, but... and this might just be me being nitpicky, but cleaning the nails might be a good idea :-)

Thanks for the comments. I do appreciate them all especially since this is not the type of photography that I normally do! I will post a color and B&W version later tonight. As for cleaning the toes.... not my kids.

I had a cropping that took out the jeans, however their mother liked it better in.
