View Full Version : Canon DSLR Speed Challenge #86 - Choices

2nd of February 2009 (Mon), 19:00
We're all faced with choices every day. Some may be extremely important while others may be trivial. Capture an image that reflects a choice to be made, one that has been made, or the results of making that decision.
This can be funny, philosophical or anywhere in between.

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR Camera
2. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size - Please see the Image posting rules.
4. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting - * ONE PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.* Photo Name in the message subject line.* Camera model & lens used.* Notes -- post brief EXIF data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used.
6. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
7. Have FUN!

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends - 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time Monday, Feb 9th, 2009.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

There were definitely some "choice" entries in this challenge. Now I have to "choose" which one best fit the spirit of the challenge. I was looking for a photo that depicts a choice to be made or one that showed the result of a choice that was made. Ideally, the photo should convey the message of a choice in its content and composition without too much explanation needed.

These are just my opinions on what spoke to me most from the entries. Based on that, here are my top 3 in no particular order yet. (and it was not easy to get to 3!)

Daniel2000 - "What to do" - Ah... the duality we all face sometimes. The good or bad. Clever photo and appropriate entry!

John_b - "Which Temptation" - Definitely a choice we all deal with at one time or another... sweets or healthy food. A nice photo that reflects on a food decision to be made. (Yes, the pun was intended on that "reflects" comment. I liked the reflection in the photo!)

athrasher - "What to Watch" - If I weren't such a TV watcher, this probably wouldn't have made me smile like it did. With all the channels on cable & satellite, why is it we have such a hard time finding something good to watch so often?

After pondering this a while, I'm giving this one to John_b. It was close, but I think this photo in and of itself best met the challenge I had in mind. Congrats John!

One other note, airfrogusmc... whoa, that dude looked like he definitely had a rough night (or a great night but rough morning). I bet he had a headache when he finally woke up!
