I have a new Canon A85 and recently it has failed to powerup, new batteries, fully charged rechargeable batteries, nothing works. Has there been a problem with this camera?

It sounds like it. You may want to clean the battery contacts, but if this doesn't resolve it, send it in for warranty service.
