Doesn't often snow here and in the past when it has, the snow has just been slushy conglomerations. The snow many of us had yesterday though actually had some crystal structure so I tried capturing some crystals. Didn't have any luck finding single crystals though.

Cool shots Brian, i had the same trouble as you, struggled to find individual ones to get good shots of.

wonder if this can be done with a non-macro lens?

Beautiful shots, whether single crystal or not. I tried for something similar here today and my ability to control DOF and focus with my new 100mm lens is laughable. This is going to take a LOT of work to master, I can tell. Which is a long way of saying why I find all of your work so stunning.

THanks for looking and commenting :)
It was good to find some recognisable snow crystals- these have been on my to do list for quite a while :)

JulieNIck - I was shooting these between 2:1 and 3:1 so you would need to do something like reverse mount your kit lens on the camera body for similar magnifications.

Kurt the last shot was the top crystals on a little snow pile - slightly different lighting characteristics.
