My good friend was over for lunch during the weekend so I took the opportunity to take a a few shots of his son. The photos were taken under available light - PP mostly color correction, a tiny bit of blemish removal and a touch of eye lightening/sharpening. Shot wide open with a 24-70L on my 50D - I think it would have been nice to go slightly narrower but it was a toss up between enough light and bumping the ISO. Being new to photography and POTN all your is C&C appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

I like the mood (and sharpness) of #1. Nice pic.

First off, welcome to POTN! Secondly, if there is anything I've learned from hanging around here, it's focus-on-the-eyes. If the eyes are in focus, it almost doesn't matter what else is out of focus, but the eyes have got to be sharp. So on that basis #1 is a good shot, #3 doesn't quite make it. #2 is just plain cute (looks like he's telling you enough already yet!).

These are all great! 1 & 3 seem a little soft though? Do you like the combo of your 50D and 24-70L? I'm looking to upgrade my XTi to the 50D and my 70-200 f/4L (non IS) to the 24-70 f/2.8L.

I like these even though they looks little soft. The first i wish wasn't differently cropped but my fav is #2. Great Job!

Thanks for the feedback guys.
mandercruso - given I mainly shoot portraits for me the 50d and 24-70 is a great combo. On a cropped sensor the 17-55 IS prob would be a better range but given its not built like the L and I will go full-frame in future the decision to go with the 24-70 was right for me.
michellebaker - thanks for the C&C. Re. the softness, shooting moving kids esp. at f/2.8 is certainly a challenge! I'm saving for a 70-200 so i don't have to get so close to them... seems they purposely fidget and move so as not to have a good picture - my daughter even turns her back on me!
